It is imperative to be properly equipped to deal with the cockroach menace. Let us follow a few tips of how to get rid of roaches.

Make Roach Bait: You can use things easily available in your house to bait and kill the roaches. Use one part powdered boric acid, one part white flour and one part granulated white sugar to form a mixture. Place this mixture in the places you expect to find roaches. Damp places and nooks and corners and crevices are the favorite hunting ground of roaches. Apply for 3 cycles over 2 weeks for best effects. Beware that kids and pets don’t eat this mixture as it can be very dangerous.
Another such mixture is also helpful in combating cockroaches. Mix 1 part boric acid, 2 parts flour and 1 part cocoa and put in places where you find the creatures. This mixture is not as dangerous as the previous one. Dust your cupboards, sinks, toilets and any cracks and crevices with this mixture. The roaches eat it and take it home to their small ones. In this way, you can kill more number of cockroaches. Try to avoid breathing in while dusting because it may infect your lungs.
Insecticide spray: These sprays are available in the market and you can spray all places where roaches might visit. It is important to keep your kids and pets away when you using this spray. Take care to follow the instructions written on the spray carefully.
Cockroach trap: These traps have an adhesive which catches hold of the roaches as they are tempted towards the trap. You can use several of these at places where you can expect the roaches.
Water jars: Sometimes water jars placed close to a wall can be very helpful in trapping these insects. The roaches fall in but can’t get out.
Liquid concentrate: This is a poison which deters the insects. After diluting with water, the concentrate can be sprayed or wiped on floors and other surfaces. The effect of this concentrate lasts for about a week or so after which you have to use again.
Soap and water: A simple solution of soap and water is sometimes enough to end the life of these creatures. If you throw the soap solution at them, they suffocate and die. The head and the lower abdomen should be completely covered to enable the roaches to die. This simple solution can do real wonders.

Cockroaches love to live in areas which are dirty. Keep the kitchen clean and store food in closed containers. Always keep the trash can empty and clean. And don’t keep logs of wood in one place for long as they can be infested with roaches. Seal all cracks and put naphthalene balls in corners. You are sure to find a way to get rid of these roaches.
