How to Get Rid of Fleas
Fleas are really irritating and no matter how hard to try to get rid of them, they manage to come back. Although people spend a lot of money on flea-control, yet they infest your home and stay on the skin of warm blooded animals like dogs, cats, rats and rabbits. They bite these animals which causes these animals to keep itching themselves and be irritable. If these fleas persist on the skin for a long time, then they can cause dermatitis, tapeworms and plague. The worst thing about these fleas is that they keep laying eggs quite regularly which keeps them multiplying fast. In no time, you will have a larger problem on your hands than before. Let us look at a few ways which can get rid of fleas without much problem.
- Salt mixed with boric acid can tackle the problem of fleas very well. It is quite safe to sprinkle this mixture on the beddings and carpet and other places where these animals sleep or frequent. It is cheap too while being very effective in getting rid of fleas. On the other hand, the mixture is not very poisonous for humans or animals.
- Another home-made solution for fleas is a bowl of soapy water. Since fleas are greatly attracted towards light, you can keep a bright source in an area where fleas are in great number. There is a chance that they will jump towards the light and fall into the soapy water in the process. This will cause their death.
- The vacuum cleaner is a great enemy of the fleas. If you vacuum clean the bedding and carpets where the fleas is maximum and also where they lay their eggs, you will be able to collect a large number in the attached paper bag. Make sure you dispose this bag far from your house. Close the bag tightly so that the fleas cannot escape and return again.
- There are some chemicals too which inhibit the growth of fleas. Use Pyroproxifen and Methoprene to deal with the problem of fleas. They can get rid of fleas very soon and also keep them away.
- There are many natural products too which can effectively get rid of fleas. The best thing about these products is that they are not at all poisonous for humans and animals and can also be found quite easily in the market. These products are lavender oil, balsam, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil, citrus peel extract and tea tree oil.
- You have to also take care of your pets and keep them clean at all times. Wash their bedding too from time to time in hot water with a strong detergent and some antiseptic to kill the flea eggs. There are some sprays in the market too which will not allow the fleas to come near your pets. But make sure that they are safe for both you and your pets.
Besides doing all these, you can also call in pest control if you fail in your efforts. But it is important to keep your home free from fleas so that they do not affect your quality of life.
