How to Get a Marriage License Although marriages are made in heaven but we mortals are smart enough to introduce a license which legalizes marriage between two people! Marriage license has own its rules and regulations which vary from state to state.

Let us have a look at the common guidelines which need to be followed:

You need to be at least 18 years of age before you start planning of marriage. Most countries have this age bar of 18 yrs as the legal marrying age.
Get a blood test done at your physician’s clinic to make sure that either you or your partner does not suffer from any venereal diseases. Although this rule is not followed by all countries, but still there is no harm in doing it.
When you apply for the marriage license, get the reports of the blood test with you.
You need to apply in person at the county clerk’s office in the town/state where you wish to get married.
Fill out a form at the clerk’s office which states your intentions to get married.
You will also have to carry along with you your identity proof. Your birth certificate or driving license can do the job of a valid identification proof.
In case you have been married before, you need to have all the necessary documents with you such as proof of divorce, death or annulment of your previous marriages.
There is a separate fee which is charged for the license. This fee varies from place to place. So make sure that you carry cash or check with you before going to obtain a marriage license.
The license takes time to get processed. So remember to ask the clerk whether you need to be present in person to pick it up or the license can be mailed to you at your address.
