How to French Braid Your Own Hair How to French Braid Your Own HairFrench braid is one of the best hairstyles for long hair. Perfect for all types of occasions, this hair styling gives a nice, tidy and sophisticated look to the wearer. If you too are fascinated with this French style, then learn the right way of doing it yourself. Following are the instructions that will help you get it right:

Instructions

  1. Before you start braiding your hair, wash it properly. A clean and conditioned hair will definitely add desired finish to the style. Make sure to dry your hair thoroughly. Braiding hair, especially French braiding, requires dry hair as wet hair is just not manageable.
  2. Comb your hair properly and unsnarl all the tangles. Presence of tangles hinders the braiding process and does not yield fine finish. You can even apply hair gel for better results.
  3. Now take nearly one-fourth of your hair at the top of the head and divide it into three sections. Hold the right section of the hair with your right hand, between the thumb and the index finger. Similarly hold the left section with the left hand in the same manner. Keep the third or middle section of hair separated from the rest of the hair with the help of any of your finger.
  4. First cross the left section over the middle one and then immediately hold the latter with your fingers. Now cross the right section hair over the new middle How to French Braid Your Own Hair1 How to French Braid Your Own Hairsection i.e. previous left section that now occupies the middle position.
  5. Unlike normal braiding where you are supposed to cross current left section over the current middle section, in French braiding you need to take a new left section from the hair present on the left side of the scalp. Bring this new left section over the middle section and then repeat the same with the right section hair.
  6. Proceed to braid in this manner. Every time take new left and right sections and include them in the braid. Continue this till you reach the nape of your neck.
  7. Once you reach the nape region you have two options. You can either braid your hair normally and tie it at the end with a rubber band or tuck the remaining ends up under the braids at the nape and secure it with hairpins. This is perfect for a formal look. Your French braid hairstyle is complete with this step.

Though initially you may find the braiding technique a bit difficult but once you learn the right way, you can easily do it yourself. It is all about locating your hair with your fingers. With practice you will definitely master the skill.
