How to Find Baby Birds
If you want to go baby bird hunting, then you should know the places where you can find them. First of all, you must realize that the baby birds must be there in the nests made by their mothers. Depending on the type of bird that you want, you can search for the nest in the right places. But you must remember that you should not try to take a baby bird from its nest, no matter how much you want it. If you really want a baby bird and want to rear it, you should buy it from a pet store. But, you can treat this as a hobby and think of enjoying the feeling of seeing the baby bird in its nest when you find one.
- Since the baby bird will surely belong to a nest, the first thing you should do is search for one. Since there are many varieties of birds, each will make a nest in a different habitat.
- If there are trees nearby, then look among the branches. If you are lucky, you may find the orioles making a nest in one of the trees. Other common birds which make their nests in the trees are hummingbirds and blue jays. The orioles make large nests whereas the hummingbirds make small ones in the crevices of the huge branches. You can search oak trees for baby blue jays. Their nests will be full of twigs, leaves, moss and paper.
- There might be a few baby birds on the ground too. Birds like flamingos and ducks will not perch on the trees but will try to give their babies a nest near the edges of the ponds or lakes. They try to hide the nests behind bushes and usually the nests are made of leaves, moss, lichens and grass.
- Some baby birds can be found on the beaches or mountains. If you are looking for baby birds of the sand martins or the swallows, you can search near large rocks or sand dunes.
- The parks and forests are good places for finding the baby birds. Birds like woodpeckers and owls like to make nests in the cavities of trees. The trees which have openings in the trunk will find the birds laying their nests there. These nests are sheltered against the adversities of nature and you will find the baby birds peeping out during the spring.
- Some baby birds may fallout of their nests when they try to learn how to fly. If you look at the region below the nests in the trees, you may find them there. If there are too many baby birds in one nest, then the weaker ones might be pushed to the ground by the stronger ones. If you spot a baby bird in this condition, you should look for its nest and its mother first. Wait till the mother returns and if it does not, then you can report it to the nearest wildlife rescue club. If you feel like, you can also lift the baby bird and put it back into its nest.
It can be a great experience to find a baby bird. But you should remember that its mother can best look after it. You might take photos and keep an eye on the nest to see the activities of the baby birds but you should not take the baby bird away.
