How to Draw Women
Women have always been the favorite subject of artists’ world wide. Whether it is a male artist or a female, drawing women has always been a common passion among all. This is only because of the interesting nature of the female form. With all her curves and artistic features, a woman makes a much loved subject among art lovers. You might be wondering that all these curves and features may make its drawing difficult for beginners. But it is not so. In fact with bit of a practice and patience almost anyone can master the skill of drawing a woman. You just have to keep in mind certain tips and guidelines that can make the task very easy and simple. They are as follows:
- While drawing the body of a woman, one should take notice of the proportions. Whenever you are taking up the human body as your subject, you need to focus on the height and make sure that the body proportion is correctly projected in your art. Remember that the body measures eight head width’s high and so whenever you are drawing the head you have to measure the height of that particular head and start measuring eight like those downwards and then you can get your female height correctly.
- Always draw a stick figure in the same way as children do. This makes it easier to mark and measure those eight heads distance from the head that can help you
reach the correct height of the female body. - You will have to pull out the shoulders out up to ½ the head’s width. While you are drawing the stick figure you need to pull her shoulders out and measure it to ½ of the width of the head.
- For drawing the hips you can just draw a box and make sure that it has the same width as that of the shoulders that you have already drawn. You also have to bend the hips slightly so that it gives the impression of a bent hip. Remember that the box should be slimmer at the waist and wider towards the place where it meets the thigh.
- Next we shall be drawing the chest box. Before doing so, make sure that you have outlined the stick figure properly by applying pressure from the pencil. After this, start drawing a box from the shoulders to the hip box. For giving it the shape of a feminine waist, you will have to draw it slightly wider at the shoulders and then taper it down till the place where it meets the hip box.
- To the thighs and the upper arms, you shall have to give figure 8 forms. Make sure that the figure eight is more oval in shape being wider at the top, thinner in the middle and then again wider at the bottom.
- Now start drawing the legs in the shape of figure 8. For the arms, the calf and the lower arm are drawn in similar fashion as the thigh and the upper arm shapes. However you shall have to keep one thing in mind that the upper figure 8 is larger than the lower rounded shapes.
- Let us now focus on the curves in the female body. Use the pencil to change the boxes and the figure eight’s to a soft curve. Hold your pencil lightly and give loose strokes to the figure. Try and give your female figure a firm shape and a soft look.
- Your female form is now complete. All you need to do now is practice so that you become perfect in drawing a woman.
