How to Draw Pokemon

Who does not know about Pokemon? A Japanese cartoon that was first featured in Nintendo video game, today enjoys world-wide popularity. Pokemon cartoon series that hit the television airwaves in the 90s instantly struck a chord with the audience. With the increased fame of the show, the interesting characters portrayed in the series too became so popular that people began to want to learn to draw them.

If you too are a fan of Pokemon and wish to make a sketch of its characters, then this article will of help to you. Drawing a Pokemon character requires simplified shapes, exaggerated features and not to forget sharp corners. With basic understanding of the drawing fundamentals, you can sketch interesting characters easily.

Here we will learn to draw Poliwag which is one of the popular characters of Pokemon series and is easiest to draw.

Instructions

1. Begin with a large circle in the centre of the page. This will form the body of the Poliwag. The round shape should be large enough so that it’s easy to add in all the essential details later.
2. Now draw another smaller circle within the first one. This circle should be placed slightly to the bottom of the major circle. This is important because it will leave sufficient space for drawing the face of the character. The two circles should be drawn such that they resemble an egg with a yolk in the middle.
3. Let’s add the facial features. For eyes make two crescent shapes touching the top portion of the larger circle. Add eyeballs to the eyes by drawing smaller circular balls.
4. Make the nose of the character. It’s really simple; just make a smaller oval shape at the top of the second circle that is within the larger one.
5. Now go on to add other details like a tail, feet and spiral on the body. For tail, make an elongated and thin leave-shaped structure emerging from the lower portion of the larger circle. Just like there is central leave vein, draw a supporting line within the leave shape so as to add finer look to the sketching.
6. Draw two feet by making half elongated ovals at the bottom of the larger circle. Now make the spirals inside the second circle. Draw spinning contours clockwise from the center of the circle. Add lips within the nose portion. Erase all the unwanted lines.
7. If you want you can now add colors to your sketch in order to make it more attractive.

Poliwag is just one of the Pokemon characters; you can try making other characters too. All you need to do is to observe the characters properly and use your fundamental drawing skills.
