While for wedding gowns you can use only lighter colors, for an evening gown you can use vibrant and much more brighter colors.
- Start with the out line of the gown that you are going to draw. Imagine that your painting of the body is done and you have a female body drawn which you need to cloth now. Female figures and narrow waist and relatively broader hips like a bottle. So now that you female body is drawn you can use the body to draw the outline of the gown you are going to draw. Remember that you can either draw a longer gown which is ankle length or shorter ones that reach the knees.
- Suppose you pick to draw a longer gown then you would be avoiding complications
of the knee shapes and hence it is always easy to draw longer full length gowns. - You can also not the shape of the hands of your painting. You can keep the hands in different positions and draw the clothing to match them. The gown that you are going to draw can have sleeves or no sleeves depending on your choice. If you draw high neck with sleeves, you would be hiding the shoulders and the neck lines. If you draw a sleeveless and strapless gown, you would need to show the necklines and shoulder shapes more clearly.
- Depending on the style you choose to draw you can make the waist narrow or with frills. Similarly you can draw a body tight dress with a high slit or a gown with lots of frills on the waist or under the knee.
- You can draw any belts or collars that you want with the dress but referring to an image always helps.
- For the gloves, you would just need to draw the end of the gloves with one of two darker lines with a few spherical lines that can be take for the crèches of the gloves. You can draw the gloves on the fingers as well and color them accordingly.
- For the hat, you would need to pick a style and draw it on top of the head. Depending on the style, the hat can come till the ears or just remain on top like the bonnets. If you choose to draw a ladies formal hat, you can draw the sphere of the hat around the head and can keep the inner line of the rim right on the middle of the forehead. In such a hat, the ears would be visible. Draw the top of the hat with oval shape and complete with colors. You can also draw a feather or two for the hat that rises above the hat in a n outward manner.
Pick a picture of the dress that you want to draw and just try to copy it. This way you can practice with a lot of dresses before you draw creative clothing.
