How to Draw Clothing
Drawing clothes can seem really tough and scary but after getting to know the basic fundamentals behind it, they are a fun job! There are certain rules and principles which need to be followed while drawing clothes. Just go by the rules and you can actually enjoy the process of drawing clothes. All that you need to start drawing is a pencil, paper and models to look at.

• First and foremost is to understand the body beneath the cloth. The basic principle of drawing great clothes is to draw the body first.
• After having drawn the body, take notice of all the curves and muscles which can affect the fall of the clothing. You need to imagine about how the clothes are going to cling to the body in context of curves and muscles.
• Now start the actual drawing process. You need to show where and how the clothes will be curving in the body i.e. around the limbs and trunk. This can be done easily by adding curves to the drawing.
• You have to now add folds to the fabrics. It is always advisable to break the folds into basic shapes. It makes the drawing uncomplicated.
• Add zippers, pockets, and buttons to make your drawing look real. These details generally are left to the artist’s imagination. There is no hard and fast rule regarding the embellishment of the clothing.

• Remember to make a portfolio. Always keep your drawings or designs safely in a file/notebook so that you can derive inspiration from them in future.
