How to Draw Cartoon Eyes How to Draw Cartoon EyesEyes are the most important part in the face. Whether you are drawing a portrait or a cartoon, eyes play a distinctive part in expressing emotions. Cartoon eyes are very simple and can be drawn in a variety of styles. When you are about to start your drawing lessons, one usually starts with eyes. Also, always remember that male eyes are different from female eyes. Most cartoon character of very prominent and unique eyes and usually each character in cartoon strip would have similarly drawn eyes with different expressions.

So, as you get on to the task of drawing cartoon eyes, get your stuff with you. You can get some paper to draw on, few pencils that are sharpened well and erasers. If you want to put colors in the picture, you can always get some color pencils with you.

There are various types of cartoon eyes that you can draw. There are quite a few types of eyes that you can learn to draw with ease in no time and keep experimenting with the shapes and sizes to give different looks. Let’s first try the most common types.

Type I eyes for cartoons

  • First, draw a curved line. Imagine the corner of the eye. You see the upper line growing out with the lower line closes in to the corner. So try drawing that shape. Also you can try drawing a big circle. And make your curved line touching the top of the circle and the lower line touching the bottom of the circle.
  • You can make the upper lid thicker by drawing another similar curved line touching the corner of the eye.
  • Draw the pupil closer to the outer corner of the eye.
  • Draw a triangular shape in lower side of the pupil and draw darker lines raising from the triangular shape.
  • Draw the upper lids from the first upper line. You can try moving to the out side for the upper lids and downwards for the lower lids.
  • For the perfect corner of the eye, you can draw a curved circular line from the upper lid to the lower one.

Type II eyes

  • Try a perfect ovular shape.
  • Now, draw one more ovular shape outside it in a similar manner.
  • Fill in a third ovular shape inside the first one and fill it with the pencil lines and shades.
  • Draw the eye lids raising from the external shape. Pull a few lines from this shape.
  • You don’t need eye lids for the lower curve of the eye and do ti only if you are drawing a female eye.

You can create pupils with any color of your choice to make your cartoon character look personalized.
