There are many people, who like to draw items of some specific category like, sceneries, landscapes, and other items related to nature and environment. While there are others who like to draw different shapes and characters to bring up their creative talent. Cape can be described as a sleeveless outer garment similar to poncho, but usually a long garment which covers only the back half of the wearer and the wearer wears it by fastening around his neck. They were common in medieval Europe, especially when combined with a hood in the chaperon, and have had periodic returns to fashion like in nineteenth century Europe.

Instructions

  1. Before drawing a cape you have to consider its length and width. The length size of the cape can be short, medium, long, and extra short, starting from the left. Most of the characters are painted wearing capes with medium and long length. But you can thought and try other shorter designs and vary these based on the character who will wear it. Similar to length width of a cape can be thin, medium, and wide. A thin cape is drawn a little wider than the shoulder of the wearer while passing the shoulder a bit. A medium cape is a little wider than the shoulder and drawn as passing the shoulder a bit. A wide cape normally covers the whole shoulder and also drawn as covering the complete body. Most of the characters are drawn wearing wide capes against the other two cape designs.
  2. After deciding the height and length of the cape, while drawing a cape you have to consider on the pull and the wind. Pull indicates the gravity and force which constantly pulls the cape down. Similar to pull wind is also of great significance while drawing a cape. The wind blowing from any direction like up, down, left or right will affect the outline of the character’s figure and the wrap of the cape around the wearer’s body.
  3. You have to consider the type of cape you are going to draw. You can draw a character wearing a low collared, high collared, hooded, or pain cape. Low collared capes fall just beneath the ear of the wearer whereas the high collared types go anything higher than the ears. The plain capes are simple and plain without any fancy while the hooded capes are always drawn with hoods. While drawing the collared capes, you just have to draw two basic lines on the left and right side of the face and widen the lines as you go upwards. The look will be similar to a triangle in the end. Now draw a straight line behind the head that connects those two triangles on either side of the face to finish the cape. The plain capes can be drawn similar to a shirt only with openings in the middle.
  4. After the type you have to concentrate on the way a cape is held. The cape can be held at two points, like part of armor, and one point. You can draw the two points as two buttons or something similar on both sides of the cape which is joined by anything that can pull the two sides together. The part of armor design of the cape has to be drawn by attaching the cape on the top of the shoulder guards of the armor. One point capes wrap around the wearers by being held at a single point. You can draw jewelry, cords, metal pieces, and clasps of some kind as the cape holders.
  5. You can add some fun to your drawn capes by adding some creative designs. You can use a much fancier version where the two points are held with a plate at center and with two tassels and an engraving on each side. You can also use ribbons and marking on the cape. Also you can use all your imaginations to make the cape drawn by you looking good.
