May be you would need practice a few times before you actually go about drawing bodies, but you can always do it with ease if you just start doing it as a fun activity. There are basic rules for every drawing which is true of bodies too. A female body is different than a male body and has to be treated differently. So, first of all, you would need to figure out what type of body you want to draw. It always helps to keep a picture for reference when you start drawing.

Also, you would need to get your self some light and dark pencils, sharpeners, erasers and some rough drawing papers for you to start drawing bodies and practice on it as well. Here is a easy guide for you to help you draw bodies.

  • Choose the type of body you want to draw. You can draw a cartoon body, an anime body, a human body. In human body also, you must choose whether you want draw a female body or a male body. So choose your subject well. The more you like your subject, the faster you can learn to draw.
  • If you choose a human body you can choose the position of the body as well. Whether you want to draw a body that is standing or sitting or reclining or a body which is doing some action, you can make the distinction of the various major parts and then decide to draw. But make sure which ever position you choose, should be able to draw the front, back and side views well enough. Even the posture determines the difficult of the drawing so for those who are just learning to draw can choose simple postures so that they can draw with ease.
  • Considering this the standing position is easier to draw than the in action pictures that show the body jumping or running or doing something that needs the body to use a difficult posture.

  • First of all just put simple line for the posture the body is standing. Simply use the stick figure for the basic pose.
  • Remember the body is about 7 times bigger than the body. Also make sure the waist is in the middle of the body.
  • You can put sticks for the legs and remember to keep some gap between the legs and feet.
  • Hang the hand on both sides of the body and hands are little longer than the point of the waist of a body so let it remain somewhere between the waist and the thighs.
  • Now, note the body and mark the places where there are joints. Also remember that the upper arm is not as long as the lower hand.
  • The shoulder is as long as the forearm. You need to make the shoulder in a slightly ovular manner. The cape between the two ovular shapes is the place where you can draw the neck.
  • Draw the head in a oval shape which would be about one third of the shoulder length.
  • After you draw the basic shape, you can now make the outer lines on the stick figure and make it similar to your subject.
  • Once you draw the outer layer of the body concentrate on the curves of the body like the chest would be wider than the rest of the body and the waist comes next to the chest. You can make the arms and highs fatter than the fore arm and the area below the knees.
  • Make the head shape properly and now the body you were drawing ready to make the clothes. You can study the subject you chose and make the rest of the drawing.
  • For better finishing, use lighter pencil to draw and darker pencil to outline when you are done.
