This may be done for professional reasons or just a pleasure activity. Few may have inborn abilities to easily master this art but it is possible for any one to acquire enough skill to draw reasonably good drawings and with constant effort to achieve mark of perfection too.

Like any art that requires skill to master it, drawing also has to be mastered in a step by step procedure. So it must be begun with learning to draw common figures we see in our day to day life and go on increasing the complexity. You can choose simple figures like box, ice cream, clown and cartoon figures. We will discuss how to draw a slightly more complicated figure of snowman.

Here is a step by step procedure:

In the first place draw three circles to form the body of snowman.
Draw a fairly large circle, and then draw a medium circle on it. The third should be a small circle and should be placed on the top.
Now draw facial sketches for frosty. Then you can draw the arms of the snowman just like sticks.
The second step involves the drawing of the snowman’s hat. Draw out a square on the top of the third circle to form the hat.
Now place two colored dots inside the first circle for his eyes.
The next step is to put 8 small dots and form his mouth.
Sketch out the snowman’s scarf make it appear like blowing in the wind.
The concluding step is to make the sketches of his arm thick. Now draw some large lines on the base to create an image of snow covered ground.
Again go to feature his cap. Add a band on the top of his hat. Now draw out the nose of the snowman just to resemble a carrot move your pencil towards the chest of the snowman and draw three buttons on it and again three buttons on the bottom part of the body. Now your snowman is ready.

Giving Snowman a 3-dimensional look:

What you have drawn now, is a line diagram but is not give a realistic perception of a human figure. That is because the line diagrams just give the out line of the body and the parts but does not give the visual effect of depth. To achieve this you must give shading lines on various parts. Here’s a different way to make your snowman come alive.

The cylindrical shape of the arms and spherical shape of face and belly must be filled with parallel narrowly spaced curved arcs where you expect the curved shapes. But do not overdo it because it will look clumsy.
Also keep in mind the effect of the light falling on the body. Imagine that light is falling on the snowman from one side.
Make fill the region with shading lines on the regions where you expect the shade due to light falling from one side. This required imagination but can be learnt by trial and error method.
