How to Draw a Rose

Some people are not blessed with an artistic gene, but have the inner desire to be an artist. Well, they can satisfy their craving by drawing simple and easier pictures. Rose is one of the most beautiful flowers and liked by almost everyone across the world. So, you can start your amateur artistic career by knowing how to draw a rose step by step. You don’t need a perfect drawing skill to draw a nice looking rose; all you need is to unleash your imagination and draw the lines.

Here are some tips on how to draw a rose step by step

1. Most of the novice artists start drawing a picture with dark pencil and end up with a messy piece of paper. To eliminate this mistake you should sketch the rose with a light pencil outline.
2. Now comes the main part of how to draw a rose step by step. The simplest way to get started with drawing a rose is to draw the center of the rose. Start your drawing with finding the innermost petal of the flower. Before drawing the centre you need to decide the right place on the paper to draw it because you are going to draw the rest of the flower outwards and also add the stems and leaves if you want.
3. Then add the petals one by one. Draw the wavy lines of the petal with free hand. If you are drawing the lines using a light touch you can erase them if there is a mistake. If you are drawing a bud, draw the lines closer to each other. After you are done with drawing the petals make the edges of the petals darker. You can also draw small lines between the petals.
4. While drawing a rose you can include its stem in your picture. It will look more attractive. Draw a vertical line under the sketch of the rose, which is attached to it.  It doesn’t need to be a pretty straight line; rather small curves on the line will look natural.
5. The next part of the stem is to draw thorns that come out of the stem. It is quite easy to draw the thorns. Draw two small consecutive lines outward from the stem and attach them at the tips to make a pointed end. Similarly, you can draw more thorns. However, make sure the thorn is not too big as compared to the stem. And, the thorns should not be too many; 4-5 thorns for a stem are enough.
6. Apart from thorns, the leaves are also included in the process of how to draw a rose step by step. Generally, rose leaf consists of 5 leaflets- two in each side of the stalk and one at the top of it. After drawing a line coming out of the stem which you can call the stalk, draw five oval shaped leaflets in the manner they are attached in the real leaf.
7. Pencil sketches look great when they are drawn smoothly and clearly. However, you can include colors to the sketch which can be a part of how to draw a rose step by step. But, if you paint the entire rose with a single color you won’t be able to distinguish the petals. Hence, you should apply darker shade of the color to the border of the petals.  You need to be creative and apply your imagination while applying the colors.
