How to Draw a Flower
Flowers are beautiful creations that have eternal appeal. Whether depicted realistically or impressionistic, in bud form or full bloom, flowers have always inspired many artists and also amateurs to capture their beauty on the canvas. If you too are inspired by the fresh and uplifting qualifies of a flower and want to learn to draw a flower, then this tutorial will help you out.
Following are some useful instructions that will help you draw a flower:
Instructions
- First draw a circle which will show the position of the flower. This circle could be tilted slightly towards left or right. Add a smaller oval (expanded horizontally) within this circle, to form the centre of the flower.
- Now let’s add the petals. For petals make long U-Shaped curves, starting from the outline of the oval shape, touching the outer circle and then ending at the center oval. Make sure all the petals are drawn closely so that there is no gap between petals.
- Draw the stem of the flower. Make a long curvy line extending from the base of the outer circle. Make another line parallel to this line so as to give a bolder look to the
stem. If you want you can add an extension of the stem with another flower attached to it. - Add leaves to the stem. Draw smaller curvy lines extending from the stem and facing upwards. Make long teardrop shapes around theses curvy lines, such that they become the veins of the leaves.
- Refine the petal ends by adding small bumps at the tips. Also make the center oval bumpy so as to give tufted look to the center. Redraw the leaves such that the larger leaves have irregular indentions. Erase the outlines making the outer circle.
- Add finishing details to flower. Draw small circles or dark dots at the bottom of the center oval. Make the ridges within each petal by drawing two parallel lines starting from the petal tips and running down the center. Add some more dots at the center oval to give more texture to the sketch. Shade the petals and leaves with finer lines at the tips and centre. Also darken one side of stem with smaller lines.
Your flower sketch is complete. It resembles a Daisy. Isn’t it beautiful? If you want, you can go on to add more flowers so as to create a perfect bunch arrangement.
