How to Draw a Dolphin
A beautiful bobbling Dolphin is a sight for the eyes. Drawing these happy mammals is quite easy if you know just some basic rules. To draw anything the most important thing to have is keen observation. It all begins with observation and how you bring your observation on paper. If you have never seen a dolphin in the seas you can probably watch some dolphin documentary films and see pictures of dolphin. These will help you develop a sense of how the dolphin looks like.
Before you begin drawing remember it is always better to have a reference picture in front of you. If you are drawing dolphins for the first time use a picture reference. Once you know how to draw it you can simply draw it out of your head.
Here goes some basic help on how to draw a Dolphin:
- Begin by making a semi circle like shape. Keep the straight line of the semi circle a little askew to give the dolphin some shape rather than making it look flat.
- Move at the end of your semi-circle and draw an ‘M’ like shape that will be the tail. The end of the ‘M’ must narrow down towards the body.
- Now draw the fins on both end of the semi-circle. You could keep the fins triangle like.
- Now add a triangle fin on top of the semi-circle.
- Come towards the end of the semi-circle and make a beak like shape. You can use a very narrow ‘U’ for this. Make a straight line in the centre for making the mouth.
- Now make a circle for the eye just near the beak.
Your dolphin is almost ready now you could smoothen out the rough edges. Give your dolphin proper shape wherever you feel it is out gone of shape. Use a picture reference to check this. Now add a ship nearby, make a group of dolphins or make a bright sky. Run your imagination wild.
