How to Do the Splits How to Do the SplitsSplit is a form of physiological art and thus when you practice this art form you have to be specific and you have to make full use of your flexibility. You may find dancers and gymnast performing splits in the most graceful manner and thus you need you take the art form more seriously and have more practice to be a split perfectionist. Here are a number of things you need to do.

1. When performing split it is best that you wear loose clothes. Tight clothes can hinder your flexibility in move and thus it is always desirable to wear loose garments in this case. You can choose to wear one of those loose exercise shorts. You can also wear tennis shoes. There is no need for you to wear show socks. You can even prefer to wear loose and comfortable t shirts along with a tank top. These are cloth types which would help you maintain your normal movements.
2. It is essential for you to perform warm up and stretching exercises. This is necessary or else you can injure yourself at the time of performing the split. These are some of the stretches which you can easily practice.
a. Keep your lower back on the floor and try to stretch your legs over the wall. Now you must try to reach the wall with both your hands. However, do not do things forcefully. Maintain a normal posture always.
b. Split both your legs and stretch them to and fro.
c. Practice rotating your legs and perform levies.
d. Stand in one position and do some jogging. This will help in warming up your leg muscles.
3. Stretch yourself as much as possible. You can practice things like lunges, butterflies, touching your toes and other form of exercises. Make sure to stretch your legs and back in the most apposite fashion. Sit on the floor with your legs apart and try to touch the legs with the help of your head. Things may seem a bit difficult at first but you must keep on trying.
4. After your warm up exercises are over you must maintain the split or the straddle position and in this way you can easily go down as much as possible. Try to lower yourself slowly but remember not to put too much pressure. Don’t ever try to overdo things.
5. Stay in that position for sometime and after you have completed you must once again practice the stretching up movements and then go back to the main menu.
6. Make sure to stretch yourself each time after you practice the split exercises. This will definitely help in warming up your leg muscles.
Never try to overdo things. This can cause immense pain and discomfort. Never go for any painful stretching. The result can be disastrous. Be in position and try to do things as far as your body permits. Make sure to warm up your muscles well or you face massive difficulty at the time of splitting.
