This is one trick, that do not require much of a gadgetry and gimmicky staff but has a lot to do with the exposition and charisma on behalf of the performer. It is one of the simplest of all tricks to pull off but needs a lot of practice for perfecting it.

Performing this elevator levitation trick is partly playing with an illusion of the mindset of people that is related to gravity. Levitation is the way to break free from the pull of gravity.
Levitation can be achieved in ways more mechanical than magical and herein lies the trick of keeping it simple enough for the masses to think that the performer is working without any mechanical aid.
On the contrary, the trick uses tools that are very simple and common and easily kept hidden from view with a little practice. You do not need expensive gadgets for this trick or not even professionally tailored dresses are necessary to perform this trick.
The tools that are necessary to build the system that helps to pull off this trick are very basic in nature. You need a recoiling reel and a piece of pvc pipe or wood and that is all. You are all set to perform the trick.
Use the piece of pipe or wood to tie at one end of the reel and place the reel in your back pocket and let it run through the inside of the pants running through the back of one of your legs.
Now during performance use your style to run your hands downwards on your pants such that you pull down the piece of wood to your heels and hold it under your heels with the string taut along its length.
Now slowly give an impression of levitating from the ground with slowly lifting your body onto your toes. Then balancing yourself on the piece of wood or pipe try to lift your toes in tandem to give an impression that your are gaining height and is free from any contact with any surface.
Make sure you make your performance as believable as possible by peppering your performance with some act, which makes your audience believe that you are concentrating hard and going through a lot of powerful emotions while trying to levitate.

Always remember that magic is a performing act and it needs to be execute with a lot of perfection because the trickery is in making the audience believe in what you want them to believe. Controlling the mindset of the audience is not at all easy and needs a lot of practice to make them only see as much as you like them to see and not notice the rest.
