How to Cook Sticky Rice
Once you have learnt to cook rice then you can create a lot of variations in the cooking style. Rice can be cooked steamed that separates each grain. It can be fried and even cooked sticky. The sticky rice is the easiest to cook.
- Once you have rinsed and put the rice in the pot keep it covered on medium flame over the gas stove.
- Let it boil for 45 minutes. Once it is well boiled, strain extra water. Now let it cook with the water left I it.
- Keep the flame low.
- If you want to add some taste to your sticky rice then add a dollop of butter and salt to taste while it is cooking. The butter will melt and make the rice softer.
- Remove from heat once you feel that the rice has started to stick to the pot or the vessel you are cooking it in.
You can cook sticky rice in a pressure cooker too. Just increase the content of water and add 2 teaspoons of oil before you cover the lid. Let the whistle blow for four to five times.
Once done let the pressure come down and uncover the lid. Serve with steaming lentil soups, chicken made in sauces or with salsa.
You can make your sticky rice even tastier by adding chicken stock to it or cooking it in chicken stock itself. Vegetarians can replace the chicken stock with vegetable stock.
If you wish to cook sticky rice in a microwave again the technique is to increase the quantity of water and cook for 45-50 minutes. More water makes the rice stickier and softer. Sticky rice tastes great with cream from milk and sugar. It also tastes nice with yogurt and sugar.
Sticky rice and yogurt are a great combination when you wish to go light with your diet. Sticky rice and yogurt can be mixed and cooked too.
Once the rice is sticky enough add yogurt to it. Cook it till yogurt mixes well with it.
Now garnish with curry leaves and cumin seeds fried in oil. You can have a nice dinner that is light on the stomach and easy to cook too.
