How to Cook Spare Ribs

The method of cooking spare ribs in an oven is as follows:
- You shall have to begin by placing the ribs in a pan. Now you have to rub the ribs with a coat of vegetable oil so that the seasoning can stick onto it. Now sprinkle the ribs with the seasoning of your choice. For people who would like to heat it up can add a sprinkling of chili powder over them. Now you need to cover them up with foil and bake them for 4 hours on 325 degrees of heat. However you would have to keep on checking the tenderness of the ribs after 1 ½ hours or so.
- Remove from the heat or else you can leave the foil lightly covered on the ribs so that they become a bit brown in color during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- You can serve the cooked spare ribs with mustard potato salad or baked beans with onions.
Let us now know about a variation of cooking spare ribs by learning about Chinese sweet and sour spareribs. The ingredients that are required for cooking this dish are as follows:
3 pounds of pork spare ribs- 6 tbsp sugar
- 2 ½ cups water
- 5 tbsp vinegar
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3 tbsp dry sherry
The step by step guide given below can guide you in the process in a better manner:
- You would have to begin by separating the ribs by using a knife to cut each rib between the bones. Now you have to cut the separated ribs into pieces of 1 inch each.
- Take a small bowl and mix in it ½ cup of water, 4 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp flour/cornstarch and 5 tbsp vinegar. Take a pot and add 2 cups of water in it.
- Now take this pot and place it on the stove. Allow the water to boil and after it reaches a boil, you have to add the spareribs to the pot very slowly. Also add soy sauce and 1 tsp of salt to the boiling water containing spareribs. Now lower the heat and let it simmer for about an hour. However do not put the lid on the pot. You will have to keep on stirring the ribs occasionally.
- Use a large frying pan and pour into it the pork spareribs along with the liquid. Place this pan on high flame and then add 1 tsp of sugar and 3 tbsp sherry. You have to keep on cooking the mixture till all the water has evaporated.
- Now you have to pour in the sauce slowly. Keep stirring the spareribs while pouring sauce.
- Cook the spareribs for about 2 to 3 minutes while stirring constantly.
- Now you can turn the stove off and serve the spareribs while they are still warm.
