The most common and popular edible snap peas are the sugar snap peas and the Asian snow peas. These are also the most common snap peas available across grocery stores. But the snap peas are available only for a brief period during the year. You can purchase snap peas only during the late spring. You can easily cook the snap peas, simply by adding water. After cooking the snap peas you can further add this as an ingredient to favorite dishes like pasta. You can cook the snap peas with a basic recipe as well as use a different recipe to make sugar snap peas.

Recipe I

  1. For cooking this you have to get snap peas from the market. While buying the snap peas, buy the snap peas along with their pods. Before cooking the snap peas you have to shell the peas. Also, trim both ends of the snap peas before starting with your cooking process. Now you can cook the snap peas by boiling, steaming or sautéing the snap peas.
  2. For boiling the snap peas, put the peas inside a pot and add water till the peas are covered completely. Put the pot on heat and boil for two to three minutes or boil till the snap peas become tender.
  3. For steaming the snap peas, put them in a steamer and steam the snap peas for around two minutes.
  4. For sautéing the snap peas, melt some butter or heat some olive oil and cook the snap peas for two to three minutes.
  5. After boiling, steaming or sautéing the snap peas, add tarragon, mint, or basil to your snap peas. Also you can dash some salt and pepper as per your taste to adjust the cooked snap peas as per your taste. If you want, you can also drizzle the snap peas with a little bit of sesame oil and garnish with some toasted sesame seeds.

  1. Sugar snaps are small and rounded pods containing tiny peas inside. These snaps provide a fresh and sweet flavor along with a crunchy texture. While buying the sugar snaps select the bright green and crisp pods full of peas and not bursting at the seams.
  2. You can use the sugar snaps simply by washing the snaps. Also, if their ends feel tough you can cut the tops and tails of the peas. Now you can either steam or stir-fry the sugar snaps.
  3. For steaming the sugar snaps, place the prepared peas inside a steamer and cook the peas for three to four minutes or till the sugar snaps become tender. But while steaming, avoid overcooking as it will cause the sugar snaps lose their natural flavor and crunchy texture.
  4. For stir frying the sugar snaps, heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan and add the peas once the oil is hot. Keep frying the sugar snaps for two to three minutes or till they become just tender.
