How to Cook Silverside
Before we know the details of the method of cooking the silverside, we should have an idea about what silverside actually is. Silverside is the tough cut of meat which is covered with a tough skin. It is required that prior to cooking silverside, this skin has to be removed from the meat. Silverside consumes a lot of time to get cooked properly and this is because of its tough skin. It has the nature to cook slowly. However once the silverside is completely cooked, nothing can take its place in being the best dinner possible.
To start cooking silverside, we have to first gather the things that are required for this purpose. The things needed are as follows:
- Silverside

- Heavy skillet
- Aluminum foil
- A deep baking pan
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 large onions
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 ½ tsp paprika
- 2 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups beef stock
- 4 carrots
So, what’s the wait for? Let us dive into the details of preparing the lip smacking dish of silverside. The method is as follows:
- Begin by preheating the oven to about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use the salt and pepper to rub across the beef. The purpose behind this to ensure that the seasoning covers most of the silverside.

- Now put some vegetable oil over the skillet and heat it over medium flame. After you notice that the oil has begun to heat up, you can place the silverside in the skillet. You have to make sure that the meat gets cooked for 3 minutes on each side. This is indicated by a brown crust which gets covered all over the meat.
- Now take out the silverside from the skillet and place it in the baking pan. After doing this, you shall have to cut the onions, garlic and carrots into small pieces. After having cut them, heat up the skillet again over medium heat and put in it the chopped onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and the juice which has been leftover from the meat. Stir all of these ingredients properly and let it cook for about 6 to 7 minutes.
- After the stipulated time, add the chopped carrots and beef stock to the contents of the skillet. You can increase the heat to medium high so that all the ingredients start to boil. Once they start boiling, lower the flame. Now allow all the ingredients to simmer for a while. Let it cook for about 15 minutes. However you have to keep on stirring them occasionally. You also have the option of adding more salt or pepper to the mixture if you desire.
- Take this mixture and pour it over the silverside which is kept in the baking pan. Secure the baking pan tightly with some aluminum foil and place the pan in the oven. Let the silverside cook in the oven along with the beef stock mixture for about 5 hours.
- After 5 hours, take the silverside out of the oven. Remove it from the pan and place it on a plate. Use the entire remaining portion in the baking pan to be cooked gain in the heavy skillet over medium high heat. Incase you find that the gravy isn’t thick enough; you can add some flour to the stock to thicken it.
- Lastly, slice the silverside and pour the gravy on it to enjoy a tender and juicy dinner!
