Firstly remove a required quantity of rice. Take the proportion you need to cook. A glassful of rice can be enough for three people.

Now check the rice for any tiny stone or particles.

Put it in a deep bowl and rinse it with water. Pour some water with a jug and went the rice is soaked under it put your hand inside and do a mixing action that will wash off any remaining residue.

Now drain that water and soak the rice in some fresh water. Soak it for fifteen to twenty minutes.

Now put the rice with water and add some more water. Now put this raw rice with water in a rice cooker or a basic pressure cooker. When you put the rice in water dip your finger in water and see if 3/4th of your fingers are under water. If they are your measure is correct. Add salt to taste.

Now place it on a gas stove. Keep it on medium flame. Let the pressure cooker whistle thrice. Once the three whistles are done lower the flame. Keep the pressure cooker on the gas stove for another 2-3 minutes.

If you wish to drain the starch from the rice you can cook it in an open pot. Ad lot of water and let the rice boil. Boil for 30 minutes. Now drain the starchy water from the pot. Keep very little water in the pot and make the flame dim. Let the rice cook till it is completely done.

You can cook some special rice by adding green peas and some fried onion to the rice. You can garnish it with fried cumin seeds.

If you want to avoid the gas stove you can cook rice in microwave too. Simply keep the rice in a microwave cooking bowl and add water. Place in the microwave and set the time for 30 minutes. If the rice is undone set the microwave for another 15 minutes.

You now have freshly prepared rice that can be eaten with soup, curries and even salads.
