How to Cook Hot Dog
Hot dogs are a universal favorite. People also call them wieners, franks and sausages. Americans specialize in both making and eating the dish. All the States have a different preparation and they take pride in adding a different dressing to the hot dogs. There are particular outlets in the States which have exceptional quality subscribing to the taste of a niche clientele. A good hot dog must have good ingredients and a natural casing which gives you quite a mouthful. Some people can attack cold hot dogs with equal affection but most of them prefer to have them cooked first. A special flavor and texture is added by cooking or rather heating by particular methods.
- Grilling – Use an open grill to cook the hot dogs. Turning the dogs can be done with tongs. You can stab the dog to release the juices so that you have a dry dish on your hands. Keep grilling till the dog is uniformly covered with grill lines on all sides. Make sure that it does not get burnt in the process.
- Steaming – A Dutch oven is best for this purpose. It should have a bamboo steamer or a simple steamer rack on it. Water, beer or broth can fill the space in the pan. It should remain below the line of the rack. The liquid should be brought to a boil after which you can add the dogs to the steamer basket. 5-7 minutes of steaming after closing the container tightly will give you really tasty hot dogs. The liquid
will give a wonderful taste to the hot dog. - Boiling – You need to boil water in a pot to get a boiled hot dog. When it starts boiling, drop the hot dog in it with the help of tongs. 3-4 minutes is sufficient to cook the hot dog. Take it out with tongs and relish the taste.
- Pan frying – Heat a flat pan and put some vegetable oil in it. When the oil is hot, put the hot dog in it. Tongs or even a spatula can be helpful in turning the dogs over so that it does not get burnt. After cooking for 5 minutes, take out the hot dog and savor the taste.
You can have your hot dogs as such or add some dressing to them. Chilly, cheese and sauerkraut are usually used. Chopped onions with two kinds of relish can be another choice. Mustard with tomato ketchup is a third option. All kinds of ketchups and sauces can offer a completely different taste. But no matter what kind of dressing you prefer, summer is the best time to have them. You can get your fill of hot dogs and even fix a party to eat hot dogs and have a whale of a time.
