How to Cook Gumbo

How to Cook Gumbo How to Cook GumboGumbo is daily dish which has been said to have originated in Louisiana. This dish is characterized by the healthy soup and the thickener that is used. The majority of the makers use Okra which is an African vegetable to make the soup thicker as well as tasty too. Even the name of the dish is itself derived from the name of the vegetable that is used. There are two versions of Gumbo being prepared. The primary one is the Creole Gumbo that contains seafood elements such as the shellfish, vegetables like tomato and a thickener. The secondary one is called the Cajun Gumbo which is based on the dark roux and is lot spicier than the former variety. Although the cooking part of Gumbo is easy but it takes a lot of time to be shimmered, sometimes whole day long.

Preparation of the Dish:

Step # 1: The very first step is to collect the ingredients necessary to make Gumbo which includes 3/4 cup Flour (all-purpose), 14 ounces of smoked sausage (slice 1/4” thick), 18 ounces Chicken breast halves, 1/2 cup Green pepper (chopped), 1/2 cup Celery (chopped), 1 cup Onion (chopped), 2 quarts hot Water, 3 Cloves minced Garlic, 2 Bay leaves, 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon Thyme, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon Hot sauce, 1/2 cup Green onion (chopped), 4 cups cooked Rice, 1/4 cup Chicken broth and 1 teaspoon Olive oil.
Step # 2: After you have collected the necessary ingredients, mince some garlic and onions in a separate container.
Step # 3: Now chop or cut the meat that you need to put in the Gumbo. You can opt for foul, poultry chickens or seafood. To ease the making process we use chicken in the steps that follow. Always keep the non-vegetarian and uncooked parts of the dish in a separate container.
Step # 4: It is very necessary to estimate the volume of Gumbo you need because the volume of Gumbo will be approximately twice the volume of the meat you have kept.
Step # 5: Now take a pot and fill it with water to about one third its volumes. Now add Dark Roux and Okra directly to the cold water and the cooked meat too.
Step # 6: Now heat the pot over medium flame and wait for it boil. While adding meat, keep concern that the fats are removed from it.
Step # 7: Finally add the finely minced garlic, onion and other vegetables. You need to constantly stir the mixture to avoid the mixture to stick to the walls of the container.
Step # 8: The pot then needs to be placed over very low flame for about an hour and a half so that the vegetables get completely cooked.
Step # 9: The last step is making the rice that will be served with the Gumbo.
Step # 10: Now serve warm and mouthwatering Gumbo on the rice and garnish it with Coriander leaves and Hot Sauce.
For better results keep shimmering the Gumbo whole day long. Finally you can now enjoy your own hand made Gumbo.
