How to Cook Dried Corn
People still prefer to dry various types of vegetables to preserve these in a traditional and ancient way. Before the invention of drying of fruits and vegetables were used a common and popular technique of preservation. But the method preserving and storing the vegetables for future usage is very much popular among the modern peoples. There are also a set of specific vegetables that can be preserved in a dried up state and subsequently used to make a number of delicious dishes. Corn and beans are one of those common vegetables that are purchased by the people in a dried condition. So when you are cooking dried corns, you have to prepare these for cooking by soaking these in cold water for at least two hours. For each cup of dried corn, you have to use at least two cups of water. Once the corns are softened, you can use these to make a number of delicious dishes. The dried corn offers a rich and nutty flavor that is distinct from the flavor of the fresh corns. Once you prepare the dried corn for cooking, you can use these as an ingredient to make stewed corn as well as get these creamed to use in soup recipes of different types.
Recipe I
Ingredients
- 2 cups of dried corn
- 4 cups of water
- 2/3 cup of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of milk
Instructions
- Add the dried corn and water to a large saucepan and allow the corns to remain soaked in the water over night. Alternately, you can use boiling water and soak the dried corns for about one hour.
- Add the brown sugar, butter and salt to the prepared corns. Place the saucepan on heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook the dish on simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Now stir in the milk to the cooked corn and simmer for additional 10 minutes. The cooked corn is ready and ready to be served to your guests.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of dried sweet corn
- 3 to 4 cups of boiling water
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup of evaporated milk
Instructions
- Add the dried corn to a large saucepan along with 3 to 4 cups of boiling water. Allow the corns to remain soaked for about 1 hour.
- Add the sugar, butter and salt to the prepared corns and place the saucepan over heat. Bring the dish to a boil, reduce heat and cook the mixture on simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Now pour in the evaporated milk into the saucepan and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Remove the cooked corn from heat and season based on your taste. Serve the dish immediately to your guests or place the saucepan over very low heat to keep the cooked corn warm.
