How to Cook Brisket

How to Cook Brisket How to Cook BrisketAlmost any dish made from beef is delectable. The soft meat, when cooked in the right way, can taste wonderful and can be eaten as such or served as an accompaniment to a glass of vodka. The brisket is a less tender form of meat but costs less as well. It is good to cook brisket when you have a lot of people coming in for dinner as it provides a good taste and is also easy on the pocket. There are many methods for cooking brisket like a pot roast or a barbecue. You can even shred it to pieces and prepare a dish which can really tease your taste buds. Let us learn how to cook brisket in an easy way.

  1. Depending on your liking for the fat on the beef portion, you can opt for a point cut or a flat cut. The flat cut will leave you with no fat and is preferable if you are conscious of your health. But if flavor is the main criterion, then the point cut with all the fat on is good. It is much tastier.
  2. You can also remove the fat later on after the meat is cooked. If you are really paranoid about not taking any fat, then you can get it removed in the later stage. While making the gravy, it makes sense to remove some of the fat as it will leave a lot of grease in the drippings.
  3. Before cooking the brisket, you can season it with whatever appeals to you. Salt and pepper are the normal seasoning used when cooking with onions. If you want to be a little different, then you can add Italian seasoning, garlic powder and sometimes multipurpose seasoning so that the general effect is much more electrifying. If you are bent upon a Mexican recipe, then seasoning with cumin and fajita will suffice. A barbecue recipe will demand a beef rub or a mesquite seasoning. How to Cook Brisket1 How to Cook Brisket
  4. If you plan to cook the brisket in the oven, then you can sear it on both sides on a pan. You have to heat some oil first and cook the brisket on a medium flame.
  5. Take a greased roasting pan and place the brisket on it. If you plan to keep the fat then put it on the upper side. You can even cook the brisket on carrots or onions. Use aluminum foil to cover the meat and preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Set the timer to one hour.
  6. Then you can remove from the oven and add 1 cup of water just enough to cover the pan. Place back the foil again and cook in oven for another 1-2 hours. Remember that the vegetables are to be added in the last 45 minutes of cooking in the oven. If you don’t like the vegetables, then you can also add barbecue sauce.
  7. Allow the brisket to stand for about 15 minutes for the dish to be ready. You can then cut along the grain and serve with gravy or sauce.

This recipe is wonderful if you are having a grand party for your friends. You can cut up the meat and serve it and be prepared to earn a lot of compliments.
