How to Clean Sandalwood Beads
You might have seen priests, lamas, monks to be busy with a string of beads running through their fingers busy chanting their prayers. These are different forms of the very common rosary that you might have come to associate with religious figures across all religions. Come to think of it and you can certainly see it become a part of the popular culture today. You wear them as a part of your fashion statement and showoff them wrapped around your wrist.
They might gather dust and grease as you wear them while you are outside and hence they need cleaning from time to time. Here are a few helping tips.
1. Sandalwood beads are made from small chunks of wood from the sandal tree as the name suggests. This is a natural product and so is vulnerable like anything that is made of wood. Similarly care need to be taken to cleanse them and keep them in good condition so that they maintain their looks and shape for as long as possible.
2. You should take care to keep them away from contact with water or any corrosive liquid while cleaning or also while wearing them. Even if they are exposed to such conditions, make sure you wipe them clean and dry as soon as possible.
3. Always store them in a place that is free from moisture and is not exposed to the extreme conditions in heat and temperature.
4. Remember that moisture is the worst fear for anything made from wood so take care to keep your sandalwood beads away from moisture and heat.
5. While cleaning your sandalwood beads do not use strong detergents or cleaners to clean the dirt or fingerprints off them. Instead, use a very mild detergent or cleaning liquid for best results.
6. Use a lint free piece of linen and rub your fingers over the beads to rub off the fingerprints and the dirt or dust accumulated over its surface resulting from its use in the open.
7. For better results you can even use natural ingredients like lemon or vinegar to cleanse the sandalwood beads. Whatever you use make sure to use it in small quantities so that it does not corrode the surface or the texture of the sandalwood beads.
8. After you have cleaned the beads off its layer of dust and dirt or the grease that has accumulated over the years, you might want to provide it with its lost luster once again. For that what you can do is to get some sandalwood oil and rub it with a small brush over the surface of your sandalwood beads. Let them dry out naturally in the open by leaving them on a piece of soft linen.
9. Once dry the luster should be back and all you might need is a quick nice rub with a soft linen cloth.
So then, that is all. You have your sandalwood beads, clean and gleaming once again, ready to take you places and make you a statement of your own.
