You might be a musician and have an elaborate collection of musical instruments of all forms and uses. On the other hand, you may even be just a music enthusiast who loves to play the piano in the confines of his living room. Never mind the stage that you consider yourself to be performing at, if you have a musical instrument in your home you will need to look into the “caring after” for your musical instruments. Moreover, if you happen to have a piano in your house you would definitely need much care for the piano keys to be looking pretty and clean at the least. A few tips follows.
1. The keys of the piano are the first thing that catches your eye when you look at the piano and hence they need as much care as you can possibly provide them with. There are two sets of keys on your piano. The larger ones are those that are white or off-white in color and the smaller elevated keys are generally in black.
2. Depending on the quality of the product and the cost of that piano, these keys are made of either wood, ivory, ebony or plastic. Costlier pianos will have the larger keys made of wood with ivory coatings on them and the black keys will be made from ebony.
3. The pianos commercially available today at a much lower price will mostly have keys made of plastic. Plastic being cheap and durable will bring down the pricing of these pianos and will also lessen the necessity of maintenance expense for the owner to some extent.
4. Nonetheless, the piano keys need cleaning from time to time in order to maintain their shine and keep them from gathering grease from prolonged usage. Since these keys are made of plastic, cleaning them is comparatively easier than those made from ivory and ebony.
5. Clean the plastic piano keys by using mild soap water and rubbing off the grease and dirt from the edges and the surface of the keys. You can also use non corrosive liquid cleaners to clean the keys with a soft moist lint free linen. Rub off the dirt and grease from the keys by rubbing hard on the surface area of the keys while pressing them down.
6. Do make sure not to use corrosive materials or strong chemicals on the piano keys. That might leave stains or scratches on the surface, or even worse, might eat away the surface coating of your piano keys.
7. After done cleaning with the moist cloth, always wipe off the moisture with a dry cloth for a clean and shiny look.
Thus taking care of your piano keys is not much of a headache as compared to the headway it gives you and your impression in front of your audience when you play your piano. Besides, it helps when you take care of things that you love and makes you feel good when you use something that is nice and clean.
