However there are certain things that are needed for being able to carve out those picture perfect portions from your turkey. They are as follows:

  • Cooked turkey
  • A meat fork
  • A long and sharp carving knife
  • Cutting board
  • Serving platter

After having gathered the things that are mentioned below, we can proceed with the process of carving a turkey. Have a look at the below mentioned points that can help you carve a turkey in a better manner:

  • You need to keep in mind that one should not set out to carve a turkey for about 15-20 minutes from its time of cooking. This settling time before carving the turkey allows it to retain its moistness even after carving. After about 20 minutes of waiting, you can begin the process of carving the turkey. Remember to use the fork for stabilizing the turkey while cutting it.
  • Begin by placing the turkey on a cutting board or on any flat surface. Make sure to unfasten the legs if they are still tied with strings or wires. Now you shall have to very gently pull out the drumstick away from the body. Take the knife and start cutting through the thigh near the joint. You can locate the thigh by using the knife to feel for a place near the joint that has no bones. While you are cutting, you shall have to simultaneously pull the leg away from the body.
  • After having removed the leg, you can hold it up using the drumstick end over the cutting board. Now start from the thigh and start working up to the drumstick. Make sure that you slice the meat off in a downward motion. Now the first half of the bird has been successfully carved off. For the other side of the bird, you shall have to repeat the same steps as mentioned above.
  • There are certain things to be kept in mind before carving out the entire turkey. Remember that sliced turkey dries out much faster than in larger chunks. Therefore it is advised that you slice out only as much portions as you are expecting to be consumed by your family and friends. Another thing to be considered is that wings of a turkey are not served traditionally but if you do not wish to waste any meat, then you shall have to cut through the wing joint to remove them.
  • Serve the slices of turkey in an attractive fashion and impress your guests further!
