How to Build Your Own Conservatory
A conservatory is a beautiful extension which is planned alongside your home to trap the sunlight and create an exquisite setting for plants. This is also an equally attractive place to spend your free time, wading through your private books. You can even invite your guests here to have a really great time among the splendors of nature. You can spend your quality time here and can also reserve your meal times for this location. It takes a lot of time and effort to build a conservatory. If you want to do it, then you should have the determination to build and complete it in time.
- It is usually normal to start by evaluating the place where you will be setting up the conservatory. It should preferably be attached to your home. The plan of the conservatory should complement the structure of your house. It can match the time period of your house. If your house conforms to a Victorian era, then the conservatory can be made to suit that style.
- The conservatory can also be made to suit the Georgian era with a simple look and having arched windows and square panes. They are more like the ones found in old England for growing citrus trees. If you have a Victorian style, then a conservatory with colorful panes and decorative metal frames will suit you fine. The windows are usually pointed with a lot of Gothic detailing.
- After you decide on the style, it is time to decide on the materials to use for construction. Treated softwood is a popular material but will require a lot of maintenance like frequent painting which can be a headache. It is better to use cedar which does not need to be painted and will in fact look very attractive after it has weathered down. If you can spare a lot of money then aluminum is good too. It needs no maintenance just like UPVC.
- After the style and materials are decided, you can select the containers. You have to keep the available space in mind. The plants should be placed so that they do not take up the entire space for entertaining guests or spending leisure time. Drainage of the containers is also another important consideration.
- Plan something different for the conservatory. You should feel excited to spend
your time here. The conservatory can be a storehouse of plants which are really exotic and are rarely found in that area. The greenery can give you the feeling of camping in the forest. Orchids and other tropical plants can be helpful in creating this setting. - You should think about an easy way to water the plants too. You can have an overhead misting system for keeping the plants moisturized. You may even water the plants by yourself by providing a sink or a spigot in an inconspicuous corner.
- To make the setting more comfortable, you can furnish it with wicker and metal chairs and tables. Now you have a perfect conservatory where you can really spend your leisure time and be happy
You can tint your glass panes when the sun bears down too heavily during summer. The result should always be a soothing one.
