How to Build Trebuchet

Begin by deciding on the size of your model. It is recommended that you do not build something very large though the size is entirely your decision. Assemble a bunch of thin wooden sticks together. This article will focus on the making of a simple model trebuchet that doesn’t incorporate wheels. The mechanism would be very simple and easy to make.
The next step is making a platform for your trebuchet. The platform should resemble a rectangular grid. This can be done by taking three long pieces of wood and then lay them side by side and make sure that you have left even spaces between each piece. Now you have to join them together at the ends. This can be done by laying additional shorter pieces of wood on the top. These short pieces of wood should also be evenly spaced. Glue the pieces together.
Use a long dowel and make it stand up on the middle of the platform. This long dowel should be placed roughly between the length of the long and short pieces of wood. This should make up the platform of the trebuchet. After you have positioned it in the place, it should resemble more like a flag pole. After this you have to glue this to the platform.
Now use the small dowel. Make sure that it is thicker than the long one but it should be small in size. The size should be such that when it is placed on the top of the long dowel it overhangs on each side a little bit. Now attach clips to each of the ends of the top of the long dowel. The openings of the clips should face the short ends of the platform of the trebuchet. Place the short dowel in the clips.
In order to make the actual throwing arm of your trebuchet you have to attach a stick to both the sides of the small dowel. The sticks should open in a v shape. One end should be glued together and the other should be open. Make sure that the open end is not too wide. From here you will have to suspend your projectile.
Get hold of the squares of cloth/leather/plastic. Now you will have to tie short strings to each corner of this piece of material. The other ends of these strings should be tied to the open end of the throwing arm. Make it like a pouch or a basket. Here you will be putting your counterweight.
Cut out a long piece of string and then tie its one end to the throwing arm in front of the closed end. This piece of string should be long enough for you to pull it under the base of the trebuchet and then back to the front that is opposite to the open end of the throwing arm. This string has to be used to pull down the trebuchet’s arm and make it ready for launching.
Tie the strings to a small piece of cloth and then suspend it from the closed end of the throwing arm of the trebuchet. This pouch should resemble a sling, and this is the place where you will be directly putting your projectile.
