How to Build Muscle Memory

How to Build Muscle Memory1 How to Build Muscle MemoryMuscle memory is a concept of repeating the same movement multiple times, till the muscles are able to perform the exact action automatically on their own. The main obstacle in the process is, your muscles not having brains to remember any specific action. So building of muscle memory depends fully on your practicing skills. By doing a task repetitively, you can train your muscles to perform on your own. For instance, while writing your name, you make your muscles remember the techniques of moving without focusing on or understanding the process. There are specific activities where you have to build muscle memory to get the required effectiveness and improved performance. Physical processes like yoga, dance, gymnastics and weight trainings, require regular practice to enhanced muscle memory. You can enhance and develop this memory power with a number of simple, easy to do, yet effective techniques.

Instructions

  1. The most effective way to train the body to perform a new task is by using a visual. If the image is familiar and detailed, it will help in performing a new task with imitation. The best example in this category is dancing steps. When a dancer wants to make an S-curve by making her body move, she can visualize the motions of a crawling snake, walking camel or swimming fish. The visual leaves an impact on the viewer’s mind with its color, shape, texture and markings. These features remain in the mind of the observer and come out automatically, when she performs a task falling under the same category. Even some geometric shapes like circles and squares can be useful for learning specific dance steps and exercise techniques.
  2. After learning a new task, you have to repeat the task with repetitive body movement to fix it in your mind. You can remember it easily in future when a new exercise or dance step is fixed in your mind. Repeating a dance step in slow motion will help you in performing the same by putting lesser amount of effort and learning the detailed nuances of the particular movement.
  3. You need to slow down to understand the techniques and movements involved in a new task, while learning it initially. After understanding the basic requirements and techniques of the learned task, you can easily master it by practicing it regularly to make your muscles recognize the precise and correct movements required for performing the exact dance or exercise step.
  4. For adding more accuracy to your muscle power, you have to add micro-movement to the initial performances. Micro-movement is a technique of performing a movement using as little range of motion as required. With the application of motions in much smaller range, you can make your muscles aware of the subtle movements occurring for the particular step. But the tiny movements have to be performed in a slow motion and with complete awareness to provide its benefit to your muscles. Once you master the exact movement of the muscles, you apply the techniques for performing much larger and more practical actions.
