How to Build Deck Stairs
Building stairs can be a task but with a little sense of architecture and knowledge of the building homes etc can be useful to build deck stairs. It will not only make a pro but also save you a whole lot of money.
A stairway comprises of three the tread, the stringer and riser. The stringer is the sides, the riser the height and the tread is the width of the stairs. Building stairs is complicated but you can follow the standing line and sleeping line example.
Measure the distance from the deck to the upper level. The area from where the deck stairs will begin needs to be flat. You can attach the stringers to the concrete ground.
Never make steps too steep since they are difficult to climb up and down. Give enough width and keep enough distance for comfortable climbing. Find the height from the level up and the bottom and divide the number of steps accordingly. You can do this by dividing the total height with the height of each step and you will have the number of steps that will run from bottom to top.
Now measure the width of the staircase to build a frame. You will have to build frame on both sides to support the stairs. You will also need to build a support system below the stairs to keep the stairs steady.
If you have learnt about standing lines and sleeping lines in school then steps work very similarly. You will have to find the width of the steps the number of steps and begin cutting timber for the laying the steps.
Calculate the vertical height and the horizontal. The vertical part of timber will support the horizontal part that is the step. You can use screws or nails to fix them. You can also use a resin adhesive on the timber before you lay each step and then fix them with screws or nails. This will ensure that the steps stay in place.
Keep going step by step till you reach the last step.
You can now fix aluminium or steel railings on the sideways. Yu can also use timber.
Now you can use sand paper and sand all the steps. Work carefully, over rough edges and smoothen them out. Now use a varnish or wood lacquer and apply it over the steps. You can use a shade of your choice to give the steps the right tint.
Le the steps dry out for a day or two. You do not want foot prints over your newly built deck stairs.

Steel railings are the best investment you can make for the main stairway to your deck. Your stairs get the most use of any part of your deck and if you use steel railings you don’t have to worry about people getting splinters in their hand as they walk up or down the stairs.
And remember to keep in mind how you are going to use the space under your deck. Underdecking allws for a dry space for storage or even public entertainment if high enough.
