Offering the similar joy as of riding a motorcycle, trikes are best for those who often make trips with some luggage.

If you too want to have a trike but think it’s difficult to build, then this article will help you to make one. All you need for building a trike is some machining skill, a motorcycle and a helping hand that could assist you in the building process. Read the following to know how you can build your trike:

Instructions

  1. With the support of your jack tool lift the motorcycle and remove the rear wheel. Loosen the two nuts that are on the either sides of the rear axle, carefully sliding the rear tire a bit forward and then sliding the chain off the sprocket. Once it is done, pull the rear wheel from the swing arm. Also pull the rear axle.
  2. Decide how wide you want your trike to be. You can build trike of any length as per your requirement. In this article we will build a trike that is half as wide as it is long. How to Build a Trike11 How to Build a Trike
  3. Also decide about the length of the rear axle that will be apt for the trike. Once you decide the exact length dimension, subtract the length of the existing rear axel from this newly determined length. Now divide the number that you get from subtraction by two in order to get the exact length of the axel that is to be welded on both the sides of the existing axel.
  4. Use lathe to remove some steel to achieve the desired thickness that matches with the thickness of the existing rear axel. Also cut the required amount of steel to match the desired length. Now weld each steel piece to each end of the axel. Make sure they are perfectly square.
  5. Fix the wheels hubs to the new axel. Weld them to the ends of the larger axel and then slide the new axel into its right place, on the swing arm. Put back or tighten the castle nuts and also reinstall the chain on the sprocket.
  6. Now install the trailer wheels to the ends of the new axel. Slide the wheels on the wheel hubs and tightly fix all the lug nuts to ensure wheels are properly attached.
  7. If you want you can also add fenders to the back wheels by bending the metal up and over the tires and then bolting it along the frame. Paint it with any of the colors of your choice.

Your trike is ready for a test ride. Go for it!
