How to Build a Tiki Bar

How to Build a Tiki Bar How to Build a Tiki BarTiki bars have become a popular theme sported by a number of restaurants and bars. You can prepare a Tiki bar at you backyard and invite your friends for an entertaining evening. The construction process varies based on the design and style of the intended structure. It is always advisable to build a simple structure by investing a lower amount of resources and efforts.

Instructions

  1. Before building the Tiki bar, you have to select the exact location, where you intend to build this structure. Once you choose the exact location, excavate the floor base and fill the excavated area with driveway gravel up to a level of two inches. Now create an 8 X 6 foot base by placing four fence posts. While placing you must ensure that the fences are posted in a square manner. Insert five 2 X 4 inches from the center and 3 inch deck screws to nail the posts. Use 2 x 4 hangers to hold the base and provide a square and level.
  2. Cover the created base by laying out 12 pressure treated boards with the usage of screws. While arranging the boards leave a gap of ¼ inch space between two boards to facilitate expansion and drainage.
  3. Now build the front and back walls by using wall frames with six 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 fence posts. Use brackets and lag bolts to fasten the frames. While choosing the height of the wall, you need to consider the average height of your invited guests along with the height allowed by the chosen location. You can attaché the back of the wall to your house directly or through the use of mounting plates.
  4. Attach the front wall posts to the back wall beams by using two 2 x 4s with lag bolts and brackets. Now, you can place 2 x 4 x 9′ boards at a gap of 16 inches from the center. You can rest each rafter on top of the front frame by forming right angled cut. The headroom under the rafters can be increased by overhanging the taper at the bottom part. Use metal hangers to attach the rafters to the back wall.
  5. The structure needs to be roofed now in a more authentic way. You can use the rusted tin roofing by using an old barn. Alternately, you can provide the structure with a thatched palm leaves roof to sport a more realistic appearance.
  6. Now choose the exact locations to build the counter space and cupboards. Use 2 x 4s to frame in the chosen area. Create the base for the counter by running two 2 x 4s 24 inches apart across the vertical posts. Increase the support by attaching vertical 42 inch lengths at each 32 inches. You can now customize the counter to match with the exact purpose of using it. Now install the counter top by using a stained and sealed 2” x 8” x 1/2″ plywood.
  7. The structure of the Tiki bar is ready. Now you can furnish the bar by using accessories like saloon-style doors, lanterns, fishnets, and seashells.
