How to Build a Stage
Do you want to a stage to perform on your birthday or need a speaker’s platform for any other special occasion? Well, whatever may be the reason it is always good to have a simple stage where magic shows, band performance, backyard plays and other types of shows can be easily conducted.
This article will help you build a simple stage that will be perfect for almost any performance. Apt for a three to four piece band, the stage is pretty easy to build and does not involve high cost. Following are the guidelines that will help you build a stage:
Material needed
- 2 Wooden shipping pallets
- 4 – 2-by-2 pieces of wood, 6 feet tall
- 1 sheet of 4 feet by 8 feet plywood
- 2 – 2-by-2 pieces of wood 4 feet long
- 1 – 2-by-2 pieces of wood 8 feet long
- Four shower curtains
- Shower curtain rods and set of rings
- Hammer and nails
- Screws and electric screwdriver
- Staples
- Cinder blocks
Steps Involved
- First, create the floor of the stage. For this take the 4 feet by 8 feet plywood sheet and place it over the wooden pallets. Now nail these sheets to the pallets so that your stage floor is ready.
- Take 6 feet high and 2×2 wood pieces to form four vertical posts of the stage. Fix these pieces at all the four corners of the stage.
- Connect all the above created vertical posts to the shorter ends of the stage with 4 feet long 2×2 wood pieces.
- Now let’s make the back curtain of the stage. For this take the 8 feet 2×2 wood piece and fix it or screw it between the back posts.
- Once the back curtain is prepared, put the shower curtain rod along with the rings between the two front posts.
- Take three shower curtains and staple or pin them around the sides and back portion of the stage. Use the remaining shower curtain for the front portion.
- Now raise the platform by using cinder blocks.

Your stage is ready to be used. So, go host your performance!
Tips
- Use fabrics to hide the underside of the stage. Staple the fabrics to the outside edges of the front and side portions of stage and let it hang down to the ground.
- If you desire a larger open-air platform, then you can omit the front posts. The frame pieces at the back of the stage can be used to create a backdrop.
- For a classier look opt for real fabric curtains instead of plastic shower curtains. You can also add some trim to the platform edges to enhance its look.
