How to Build a Rocket
It is not at all necessary that an individual has to be a scientist to know how to build a rocket. This is because in here we are not describing about an actual highly sophisticated rocket or spaceship. But it is all about a model or a miniature rocket that can actually blast off into the sky right before our eyes. There are also well defined options where an individual can purchase a small model of a rocket from any relevant local store. Instead a homemade rocket will unleash your creativity and also yield more fun and excitement. Besides such a fun project can even help an individual know something useful about the basic principles on which a rocket works.
But there are some important features which an individual should know while building a rocket. These points are described in brief under the following subheads: -
Tools and Materials
- There are some instruments and materials which should be collected before an individual starts with the building process of a model rocket. Identify all the components listed in the instruction manual of a rocket model kit. Equipments like nose-cone, launch-lug, body-tube, etc. are worth countable for such projects.
- Besides there are other tools and equipments that will be required for building a homemade rocket model. Model Rocket Engine Mount Kit that includes engine tube, engine hook, centering rings, glue, ruler, scissors, pen knife, etc. come into application during this project.
Assembling the Kit
- The model rocket engine needs to be mounted on the engine tube found in the kit. The typical engine mount kit consists of three basic parts. The rings which center the engine tube in the middle of the body tube for the rocket model. The engine hooks which are meant to keep the model engine in place should be tied carefully. Finally the centering rings for holding the body of the rocket while launching it.
- But the most basic form of a rocket engine mount consists of an engine hook without any centering rings. This is because it uses the body tube of the rocket as its tube engine, since both have the same diameter. Such a model design gets the most out of the engine, as there is no extra weight loaded on the engine mount kit.
Body Construction
- The body tube of the rocket must be marked for accurate placement of the rocket fins and the launch lug. An individual should follow the instruction booklet available in the kit to mark accurately.
- Make proper marking as the rocket fins will go horizontal and parallel to the body tube. Once the initial markings are done, they must be extended to the sides of the body-tube to mark for the launch-lug. Make sure that this mark is between two of the rocket fin marks, and not just one. This is done to allow space for the fins to clear the launch rod during launching of the rocket.
Attach the Other Parts
- There are also some important parts like shock cord, nose cone, recovery system and launch rod which needs to be attached while preparing the model of the rocket.
- Place the nose-cone on top of the body tube to determine how far down the body tube the shock cord should be mounted. Now apply adhesives or glue on one side of the shock cord to mount it and press it firmly inside the body tube far from the top to allow space for the nose cone.
- Then the nose-cone should be tied to the loose end of the shock cord. The recovery system includes the steamer and the parachute. These are to be connected to the nose-cone of the model rocket.
These are the steps that should be incorporated while building the model of a rocket. An individual must strictly follow the instruction manual besides observing the above mentioned points in his project.
