How to Build a Go Cart How to Build a Go Cart It is great fun when all the family get together to build something that they all love and building a go cart brings that pleasure when everyone works on it. If you are a bit ingenious and good at handling tools it would be quite easy to build one.

A go cart that is also called kart, off road buggy, shifter kart or gear kart is a simple and small vehicle that has four small wheels, automotive engine and brake. It is simple in design and easy to make also but you would require some especial tools for the purpose.
You first need to make up your mind as to what kind of go cart you want to make as it can be made of wood, scratch, drag go cart, with steering wheels or without welding.

Brake and throttle assemblies

Now follow the simple steps to build your go cart.

a. You can use square or round tubing for the frame keeping in mind the rider. If the rider is a heavy person then the material should be tough enough to hold the weight. You can get it from the houses that sell go cart parts.
b. Use a stable mount to fix the motor in the rear of the cart. The usual type of axle used for this purpose is the rear wheel drive-fixed axle. You have to use a spacer to make sure that the wheels are spaced evenly away from the frame on both sides. Now at the back of the seat, you have to mount the motor on the rear of the cart. There should be plenty of space between the axle for the drive and the bottom of the motor.
c. You can purchase the parts or even manufacture them yourself. But you need to be very specific in the steering spindles that you will mount for they need to be welded with the frame and the cover for the axle and the steering shaft. Be sure to use a pitman arm assembly and steering shaft for your go cart.
d. Next you have to install the brakes and the throttle assemblies. You can make them at home or buy them from the spare parts shops that give you instructions for installing them also. You can put a pedal brake or a hand brake according to your requirements. The brake pedal assembly exerts a pressure on the brakes via a clamp system to a disc to control the cart while the hand brakes have a bar at the rear wheels and when pressure is given to it, the wheels stop turning.
e. The last important thing to do is to fix the seat. It should be comfortable for the rider and take extra care to mount it sturdily on the frame to avoid accidents while racing.
