- Plywood
- Hammer
- Saw
- Glue
- Sandpaper
- One forth inch plywood for the roof, walls and back
- Two dowels
- Paint if you want
Steps to build:
- First of all you need to measure the size of the bird house that you want to make. If you are a novice, it is a good idea to do a project with a cardboard and then move on to ply so that you learn the sizes and the way you are going to fix the bird house.
- Suppose you want a small and cute bird house which is rectangular in shape then you must remember that the roof has to be a bit longer than the length of the walls.
- For the purpose of this article, we are building a bird house that is 6×6 inches.
- Saw the ply wood into four different parts. You can make two parts with the measurement 6×8 inches and 4 with 6×6 inches size.
-
The bigger sizes are for the roof and the smaller ones are for the walls. - Take a 6 inches long dowel and fix it to the width side if a piece you kept for the roof. You can either glue it or use nails to secure it to that part. Then take the other part for the roof and hammer it back again to the dowel. You must do it in such a manner that it looks like a perfect 90 degree angle.
- Take one of the 4 pieces you kept for the wall. You need to make a circle and saw it out. You can use a driller to cut out that piece. You can make the circle big enough to work as a door for the birds.
- Similarly, take the part you kept for the back and make few smaller holes so that those work like small windows. You can make 7 smaller holes to look like a flower.
- Now take the two parts you kept for the walls and attach to the roof. Make sure, you can a cubicle of 6×6 inches size. Now take the front and back part and fix to the structure you made with the wall and the roof.
- Cut out a 3 inches dowel and glue that to the front piece. You can put it a bit lower than the big circle you cut out. So that the birds can perch on that.
- Now use the sand paper the clean the surfaces and any stiff edges that you may have.
- You can paint it using your creativity.
Tips: You can put some boards on the floor and sides of the bird house before you fix the front and back pieces to make the home complete for the birds. You can even place some cotton to keep them warm.
