Before staring off, you have to be sure that you have the measurements of the mattress that you would be laying on the bed that you are going to build. Be careful that the base boards of the bed are about an inch longer than the mattress so that one can access the drawers properly.
The first step is getting the drawer boxes. You can either borrow them from another piece of furniture or you can try and make them yourself. For making these you will need 4 pieces of wood slabs that would be required for each drawer and a large bottom piece. Make sure that the two side pieces are a little longer than the front and the back of the drawers. Now you will have to screw the pieces together. Glue can also be used for this purpose but screws provide stronger support to the framework. If you are making a queen size or a king size bed then you can create six drawers. Now the base of the bed needs to be built wherein the drawers will slide into. The base has to be a wooden frame that can well support the mattress. After identifying the required space, you will have to measure it out and then shift the bed towards the side so that the frame can be laid down.
For making the frame, you will need four thick pieces of wood. Make sure that the wood pieces are sturdy enough. You also have to take care that these pieces are taller than the drawers so that they can easily slide in and out. Take four pieces of wood and screw them together and after that you have to use one thick piece of wood that will act as the middle frame of the base of the bed.
The next step is making smaller cross sections of the wood planks for making them go inside the frame. Make the cross sections about half the size of the frame pieces. This particular part will be the support for the drawers. You will have to take one long piece down the middle of the frame and secure it so that it creates a cross like shape with the center piece. From that particular position, you will have to secure one small piece which goes the opposite way more towards the bottom and another piece in the same direction at the top. In short it should resemble a tic-tac-toe board. Carefully secure the pieces together with the help of glue or screwdriver.
The last step is securing the drawer tracks to the cross section planks with the help of screws. Remember to attach the drawer runners to the drawers and connect them. You can also place a solid piece of wooden board over the four base pieces that can help in supporting the mattress better. You can also nail planks of wood across the top.
