How to Brew Your Own Beer
People who love beer would also love to brew it themselves! And there is no rocket science involved while you are trying to brew your own beer. In fact there are so many kits available in the market today that can easily guide you into the process of brewing your own beer right from scratch. The things that are needed for brewing your own beer at home are:
- Bottling bucket
- Siphon hose
- Beer bottles
- Bottle filler
- Racking cane
- 5 gallons of water
- ¾ cup of corn sugar
- Around 2 ounces of bleach
- 1 cup of water
The step by step guide given below can help you further in this process of brewing your own beer:
- The first and foremost step is to soak the malt extract. This can be done by soaking the cans in hot water for about half an hour. This process is executed for the purpose of softening the malt extract. Now you shall have to boil 1 ½ gallons of water in a kettle and then mix the malt extract into the water. You have to take care to mix the malt extract and water nicely so that they get combined well. Allow the mixture which is also known as wort, to reach a boil. Now you have to place the kettle back on the stove and let the wort boil for another half an hour. However make sure that you keep on stirring the mixture constantly. Remember to add the hop pellets to the mixture just before it reaches a boil.

You then have to focus on the sanitization of the primary fermentor. This can be done by using the bleach that was mentioned in the list of things needed above. Take a gallon of water and mix in it an ounce of bleach and then use this mixture to sanitize the fermentor with a sponge. After having sanitized the fermentor, fill it up with fresh water and put back its lid. The wort which was prepared in step 1 has to be now filled in the fermentor carefully. Leave the wort to cool off a bit. You then have to add the rehydrated yeast to the wort very quickly and place back the lid. Avoid stirring the mixture and then connect the fermentation lock to it. Fill up the air lock half way with water and leave it brew for 14 days. - Before you bottle your beer, remember to sanitize the beer bottles using bleach. Everything including the tools and the caps of the beer bottles need to be sanitized. Take a cup of water and add in it corn sugar and then leave it to boil for about 15 minutes. Take out the fermentor onto a counter and place bottling bucket under it. The corn sugar solution which was boiled has to be now poured into the bottling bucket. The beer has to be siphoned from the fermentor to the bucket very slowly till it is full. Use the sanitized racking cane, bottle filler and siphon hose to the bottling bucket and then start filling your beer bottles. Make sure that you cap each bottle after filling them up. Allow the beer in the bottles to rest for about two weeks in a cool and dark place before you drink it!
