Instructions for three strand braid

Take three equal length strings, preferably of different colors. Here we will take red, pink and blue. Tie the strings tightly at one end with a rubber or another smaller string. Now place the strings on a flat surface area. It is always better to attach the strings to a fixed point. You can do this by tying your strings to a hook on the wall or to a table, or your shoe, pinning them to your trousers or to any other place that is farther away from you.
Now let’s start the braiding process. Make sure that all the strings are arranged neatly with no tangles. Keep them in the order of red, pink and blue. First take the string on the left (red string) and bring it over the middle string (pink one).
Next take the right side (blue) string and let it jump over the new middle string (red). Continue the process of bringing the left string to the middle and then right side string to the new middle.
Make sure to weave the strings securely but not too tightly. Also keep checking that the free string ends remain untangled throughout the braiding process. This way you will get the desired pattern. Continue the process until you reach the ends of the strings or as per the required length.

Instructions for four strand braid

Take four strings and arrange them just the way you did earlier. Here we will arrange in the order of red, pink, blue and green. Now let start the process. First take the left most string (red) and bring it over the string on its right (pink).
Now take the outmost string on the right (green) and make it jump over the two strings in the middle (red and blue).
Repeat the process of bringing the left string to the middle and then right string over the middle strings. Continue the process until you reach the desired length.
