How to Become a Sniper
Snipers who work for the law enforcement are also known as sharp shooters and/or police precision shooters. These law enforcement snipers usually work as members of SWAT team. SWAT stands for Special Weapons and Tactics. This particular team comes into action during hostage situations. Usually snipers or sharp shooters are positioned on the top of high rise buildings so that they can keep an eye on any suspicious movement in the locality that they have been asked to guard. Those areas which have a greater risk of having violent activity are guarded by law enforcement snipers. Though snipers are known as sharp shooters, they are usually directed to shoot only as a last resort. In this article we shall know about the method of becoming a law enforcement sniper. • The prerequisite for becoming a sniper is to earn a college degree. A person must hold a bachelor’s degree for being eligible to become a sniper. It has to be kept in mind here that one has to become a police officer first before becoming a law enforcement sniper. Make sure that you attend a law enforcement training facility. Check with the local laws to know about the requirements for police officer training. Police training usually includes obtaining knowledge about arrest procedures, investigation techniques, report writing etc. This training takes about a year to complete and improves a candidate’s stamina and strength.
• Ensure that your shooting skills are in place by practicing a lot. You have to make yourself an excellent marksman. Gain knowledge about topics like shooting under various conditions and its fundamentals. Make consistent efforts to make your skills in shooting reach perfection. For doing this you have to constantly practice shooting from different ranges. After having gained enough knowledge and understanding about shooting skills, you can now proceed on towards becoming a police officer. Before you join the any law enforcement agency, you have to make sure that agency has a Special Weapons and Tactics section. Many states might require you to serve for about three years in uniform for becoming eligible for the team member position of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics). Ensure that your relation with your colleagues and superiors is good so that they provide positive recommendations when you apply for a SWAT member position.
• Being a member of the SWAT division is not that easy though. You shall have to appear and clear several tests before becoming a sniper in a law enforcement agency. Some tests are mentioned below:
Firearms test: evaluation of being able to shoot moving targets and while running
Physical evaluation test: test of running, weight lifting and sit ups
Psychological evaluation test: evaluation of being able to pass through stress
Interview: evaluation of communication skills
• After having passed and cleared all those above mentioned tests, you can proceed to apply for being a SWAT member. Being a SWAT member is only the beginning of being a sniper.
