How to Be Hospitable

thankyou732616 thank you sign How to Be HospitableIt can be a great feeling to have hospitable hosts. It makes you feel welcome and can help you enjoy your stay with them. On the other hand, if you reach your host’s home and find no one at home or the family members staring unsmilingly at you, you really feel like running away. If you have to play the host to a guest of yours, there are many ways in which you can help him feel welcome. You can create the environment in your house which will make him feel happy and comfortable. By looking after his simple wants, you can be a thoughtful host. These are a few tips which will help you to be hospitable.

  • Welcome Them – Your guests should be made to feel welcome at your house. Call them up and find out their arrival date and time so that you can arrange for the house to be open for them. You can even suggest an itinerary for them to go sight seeing and advise them to bring woollens, raincoats or any other thing which will be a certain requirement. You can also arrange a few things for them at your home and so they need not weigh down their bags with these items. You can also consult them about their food preferences and allergies.
  • Arrange Their Space – If you are going to arrange a guest room for them in your house, then you should make it comfortable and furnish it with the necessary things like toiletries. You can also place some luxury items like aroma oils. Placing some magazines and books for them to read can be a good idea along with a jug of fresh water and a glass. Try arranging for a pleasant surprise by placing small gifts on their pillows on the bed. You can choose from chocolates, cards, albums and many more.
  • Help Them Feel At Home – When your guests reach your home, show them around the place. Let them know where the light switches, coffee machine, first aid box, extra blankets and other things can be found. Help them learn the functions of the TV and the computer. You can also enquire if they need anything else and how to contact you in case you are away.
  • Go Sight Seeing – You can arrange for some collective activities, like going to the nearby places of tourist interest. Involve yourself in a few of these outings but help them go out independently too. You can provide local maps and travel brochures so that they can travel and see the interesting parts of the place by themselves. Suggest nearby food joints and parks for the kids to have a great time.
  • Relax and Enjoy – Don’t be too keyed up to be very hospitable to the guests, or the strain will show on your face. You will only make the guests fell uncomfortable. You too will not enjoy their stay. Try to arrange for everything as best as you can and then let them be. Don’t fuss around them and be too overbearing. Give them space and the opportunity to put forward their views about using the available time in the best way. Don’t force your ideas on them. Make some simple dishes that they will like and you can ask them to help you so that they feel like family.

These are only a few ways in which you can be hospitable. Your positive attitude and smiling face can really make someone feel welcome.
