How to Airbrush Flames

How to Airbrush Flames How to Airbrush FlamesAn airbrush is air-controlled instrument that drench a surface by spraying various fluids or liquid mixtures like dye, ink or even a coloring paint. Such a process or technique quite similar to spray painting is termed as nebulization. It operates by passing a flow of relatively compressed air through an aspirator moving fast, which creates a suction sort of a pressure like found in a syringe. The high velocity paint is made to occupy any metal surface or a paper and the speed can be controlled with a trigger like the to and fro motion of small pointed needles. The more the pressure will be on the suction tube the more fine and smooth the design will be portrayed over the surface. Creatively designed streams of flames are evocative and attractive. Airbrush flames look more realistic because no strokes of brush or even markings of paints are found after the design is completely dry. Flames designs are relatively more demanding as even people with marginal drawing skills can easily make one appealing pattern over a surface with the air brush technology.

Some of the useful steps are mentioned below for creating airbrush flames. These comparatively easy steps will help you get a striking look on the surface you prefer to drench with real cook designs: -

  • Make the outline or the boundary you prefer to cover on the surface for the flame using acetate (a salt of acetic acid) using a marker or a pencil. Use your own skills to give an exotic look though normally we tend to taper the design of the flame at both the ends while making a broader middle portion.
  • How to Airbrush Flames1 How to Airbrush FlamesPeel off the design pattern by cutting the boundary of the artificial flame using a pen knife. Be careful with the sharp edge of the knife not to create any injuries on your fingers. But make sure you do not forget to take a sheet of illustration board. This had to be placed just under the acetate and before you initially start to cut out the design that was made for airbrushing.
  • Before you start filling the colors into the design pattern, try to make the outlines of the flames using a black color. This is because if you are still a novice you might cross the borders while airbrushing the flames.
  • Now you can airbrush with red, yellow and even orange that are generally used to give a realistic look to the flames so designed. You can even add blue color to mark the beginning of the flame. Next with the yellow you can fill the orange color in the mid broad part of the flame. The final tapering end can be made to look more attractive if colored in red.
  • Keep an observation that the nozzles are continuously cleaned to avoid jam or blockage. This is to be followed because a relatively blocked nozzle will lead you with a deformed spraying of the paint. Finally all it to dry.

Materials required: -

  • Acetate
  • Airbrush
  • Pencil/marker
  • Paints
  • Illustration board
  • Penknife

Pursuing with the effective steps mentioned above you can bring life to the flames you prefer to design through the process of airbrushing. You can make the background of the surface painted in black or any dark shade to serve a contrasting look to the design of the artificial flame.
