Diaper Cakes Instructions with Pictures
Baby showers are a real fun time for the mother and her friends and relatives. The gifts look very cute and happy and make the expectant mother cheerful and get ready for a healthy and active baby. Diaper cakes are pretty to look at and are very useful once the baby is born. Even to be a little more sensible, you can add things for the expectant mother so that the baby shower is not only about the unborn baby but for the mother as well. And if you are planning a special gift for the mother and child together, then a nicely decorated diaper cakes would leave every one starring at your creative jinx.
Diaper cakes at times look very easy to make and at times, they can turn out to be a messy affair. You can make a diaper cake with disposable diapers or cloth diapers depending on your choice. Usually a diaper cake consists of diapers tied close to each other with two or three stacks and decorated with anything like a jingle, teddies, pacifiers, balls and dresses etc.
If you set about making a diaper cake, then you can actually consider whether you want the unborn baby to be girl or boy and design one with that specific color. Small socks and bows look very cute of the diaper cakes. Even small stuffed animals and fairies look very cute. For example, a diaper cake for a girl can be done in pink and a boy can be done in blue but it is always better to make a general looking diaper cake with toys that are used by both the girl or boy baby. Some expectant mothers even do their own baby shower cakes as they look cute and attractive and do well as a center of attraction in a party.
The ingredients you need to make a diaper cake are as follows:
- Plain or printed Diapers (Minimum 60 or more depending on how big you want the cake to be and how many stacks you plan on it).
- ¼, ½ and or one inch Wide ribbons (you can choose the colors that you like and get enough of them to tie and secure the diapers together).
- Small and large rubber bands.
- Get a bottle of shampoo or lotion that is long enough to hold your stacks.
- A cardboard cake platter.
- Decorations like, toys, jingle, bibs, bottles, some stars teddies, pacifiers, balls, little socks, dresses, baby towels etc.
- Some tapes.
Steps of making a diaper cake
- Unfold and wrap the diapers tightly with the small rubber bands.
- Fix the baby lotion bottle on the cake platter and place the wrapped diapers (vertically length wise) close to each other. You can use tapes to fix them close but make sure you use a tape that is easy to remove. Of you can use the rubber bands to secure them properly but it should not be too tight. Make two or three circle around the bottle with the diapers.
- Similarly, place the second stack on top of the first stack and make two circles around the bottle and secure it with tapes or rubber bands.
- In the same style, do the third layer and make sure, your stacks are tight enough to each other and there is no diaper bulging out of the stacks.
- Tie the ribbons in a decorative manner in exactly the middle of the stack (vertical length wise). Make sure, the rubber bands are not visible.
- Stick the toys and other decorations you have collected in a creative fashion.
Place the teddy or the star you bought on the top of the stack and exactly on the middle and you are done with your diaper cake.
