Playing blues on your guitar can be an emotional lift for many guitarists. If you listen to the blues rendition of legends like BB King, Albert King, T. Bone Walker and Robert Johnson, it can take you to an entirely different sphere of musical high.

If you’re passionate about playing blues sound on your guitar, it can be a totally overwhelming experience. Blues guitar can have many forms and learning how to play blues on guitar is a gradual and evolving process. However, if you learn the specific style, patterns and techniques of playing blues guitar, there’s no reason why you can’t get better at playing blues on your guitar. To begin with, you should try to learn the basic blues rhythm and go about learning their fundamental strumming techniques.

So let’s learn a bit about playing blues on guitar:

Tuning Your Guitar: One of the most important things to know about playing blues on guitar are tuning your guitar correctly. If you want to play blues, you should try to tune your guitar for the open chord such as G major or E major. Besides, you can use metal slide (pocket knife, for example) to change the chords.

Picking Your Strings: When you are done with your tuning, picking your strings becomes the next important step. Whether you want to do slide pattern or fretted pattern, you should try to thump out steady bass notes on the lower strings with your thumb, while picking the upper strings to create fills, chords and riffs.

Chord Progression: A blues song is defined by the way you put together the chords on your guitar. Remember, there is no blues chord on your guitar; however, you need to use certain chords to create the sound of blues. This is known as chord progression. One of the most popular blues chord progressions is 12-bar blues.

Blue Notes: It is also important to recognize and practice with the blue notes on your guitar. Usually, the minor third (b3), minor seventh (b7) and flatted fifth (b5) on your guitar constitute the blue notes, which are used to create a blue scale on your guitar. These notes are especially used to create a harmonic blues sound on your guitar.

Playing The Blues Rhythm: Try to strum the E-major chord on your guitar using down strokes and playing square notes (like counting 1-2-3-4 slowly). Then pick the eight notes and change your rhythm to 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Counting is very important component of your practice for playing blues on your guitar. While you are at either notes, you can try changing the counting and playing triplets (like 1 and the 2 and the 3 and the 4).

After a while of practice; while you are learning, try to incorporate the major scale and blue notes to come up with the 5- note and 6- note blue scale. Practice is the most important thing while learning to play blues guitar sounds on your guitar. You could also listen to the guitar recordings of some blue guitar legends to feel the blues rhythm which will help you create a feel of blues on your own. So keep up the practice until you master the blues guitar rhythm. Good luck!

Learn more about:
We all love to hear a musical piece more with interest if the effect it produces is harmonious and pleasant-sounding. The orchestras or the musical instruments that accompany in a musical concert or recital have to be tuned to the maximum level so that the entire piece of music is melodious and not harsh or crude for an ear to hear. There are some points and factors based on which a musical instrument holds its essence to sound good and melodious. Frequency and pitch has to be perfectly in the scale as desired by the player of the musical instrument so that the while playing the sound and the melody appears soft and appealing.

In here we will discuss the relatively important points and factors as to how we should tune a bass guitar. All these information and description will be under the following subheads: -

Without Using an Electronic Tuner

By describing about a bass guitar we all basically mean to a guitar with four strings falling under as E A D G as its standard format. Tuning has got is distinguishable importance so that we achieve or attain a prescribed arrangement of sweet sounding notes on the open or unfretted bass guitar strings by adjusting with the pitch for every single string. Press or play the E note on the piano which is represented in the white note found just after two black notes in a consecutive sequence but make sure you do not look for the three black notes. Simultaneously strike the thickest string which is E string of the bass guitar placed on the top of the other three strings. This is done by anticlockwise rotating the Tuning Head or the Metal Head present at the base of the guitar arm. Keep on twisting till both the E note of the piano and the bass guitar make a resembling and synchronized sound. The same method employed for the E note can also be applied for the subsequent strings of the bass guitar which consist of the A D and G strings. But be very careful not to hit or strike the stings to hard that it breaks and the whole process goes in vain. Also maintain smoothness for the Metal Head or the Tuning Head while twisting for the perfect tuning of the strings of a bass guitar.

Using an Electronic Tuner

In an electronic tuner we can easily tune and make sweet sounding notes for a bass guitar. Pitch and frequency in such a device can be seen on the monitor and the synchronization of the waves gives you a clear idea about perfect tuning. There are certain buttons in this electronic device which on twisting along with the Metal Head of the bass guitar shows graphs or waves sorts of representation on the monitor. Keep twisting and tuning the strings till the waves produce two parallel sinusoidal waves one for representing the wave created by the frequency of the bass guitar while the other is of the apparatus with which you are matching the vibrations to tune the bass guitar.

This way you can tune your base guitar composed of four basic strings. But there are also bass guitars which have five and six strings and the procedure to tune those is also same as mentioned above in brief.

Learn more about:<ul

Composed by “Kurt Cobain”, a lead singer from the American band Nirvana in their second studio album “Nevermind” in 1992, the song can be heard till today. Playing the chords on a piano or striking the strings of a guitar or a violin makes such soft piece more lively and touching.

Are you one of those persons who love their guitar but simply hate its color? Well that’s not a reason to crib over these days especially when you can custom paint your very own guitar yourself! Although this requires a lot of effort and hard work from your end but it also ensures that the final result would be worth the effort. You have complete freedom to choose any color to grace your favorite piece of instrument and make it look great. The only thing which you have to keep in mind is to be creative and express yourself openly and freely while painting your guitar. So what’s the wait for? Let us first arrange the things that are required for the purpose of painting a guitar:

Newspaper

Work table

Paint mask

Spray paint

Screwdriver

Sand paper

Paint brushes

Primer

Wood finish

The method of painting a guitar is as mentioned in the step by step guide below:

You have to begin by removing all the strings from your guitar and also remove the pegs and tuners from the headstock of the guitar. The strings are needed to be removed from the guitar because the neck of your guitar will be painted separately from its body.

You have to use strips of masking tape to cover the fret board of the guitar. This is to prevent any paint or wood finish from spilling onto the frets and thereby damaging it.

Now you need to apply one coat of wood finish to the back of the neck of the guitar and to its headstock. You shall have to leave the neck to dry off for about 24 to 36 hours.

The next step involves the removal of the pickups and the contact plate from the guitar. For the removal of these parts, you will need to de-solder all the wiring connections. Incase you are painting an acoustic guitar, you have to cover the sound hole with masking tape so that paint is prevented from getting inside the guitar.

Choose a table as your working table and cover it with newspaper. This is required to prevent the table from getting damaged with the spray paint that will be used to paint the guitar.

Use 100grit sandpaper for the purpose of sanding both sides of the guitar. Continue sanding till you are sure that the surface has become smooth enough to touch. After sanding the surface, wipe off all the sawdust from the guitar’s surface.

Apply primer on the guitar’s body. For this you can either use a spray can primer or a brush. Make sure that both sides of the body of the guitar have been evenly coated with the primer. Let this dry off for about 24 hours.

Again use the sandpaper to sand the runs in the primer and make the body of the guitar smooth.

You have to use a pint mask that can prevent you from inhaling any toxic fumes from the paint. Start spraying the paint to the front of the guitar’s body and use back and forth motions to make sure that every spot is covered with paint. Lay the guitar on the work table with the front up and let it dry for 24 hours.

After it has dried completely, you have to flip the surface and paint the other side of the guitar’s body in the same manner as explained above. Allow this to dry for 24 hours.

You have to apply a second coat of paint on the body of the guitar.

After the paint has dried off, you have to reassemble the strings, pegs and the tuners back onto it.

Watch a video instruction on how to paint a guitar
<p

This article will help you further in understanding to read the notes on the acoustic guitar. You might be wondering that this may be a task which is going to be difficult and boring, but it is worth mentioning here that learning to read the notes of a guitar is not that tough or monotonous. Instead of attempting to learn and understand all the notes at once, we can try and break them up into chunks that are manageable and understandable. If you break the notes into small positions or strings, you can very well learn to read the guitar notes. If you learn to read the notes in the open position then that is a good way to get started with the method of reading acoustic guitar notes. The step by step guide given below can help in making the task easier and simpler for you to carry forward:

•	First of all we shall have to know more about the open stringed notes which are as given below:

E ->6th string
A -> 5th string
D -> 4th string
G -> 3rd string
B -> 2nd string
E -> 1st string

•	Now you have to know about the fretted notes that are positioned between the 1st positions on the 6th string. Notice that F would be positioned on the 1st fret and G would be positioned on 3rd fret.
•	Now turn your attention towards the fretted notes between the 1st positions on the 5th string. Here also you can notice that B will be positioned on 2nd fret and C would be positioned on the 3rd fret.
•	After learning the above properly, you can know the fretted notes between the 1st positions on the 4th string. Notice that E would be positioned on the 2nd fret and that F would be positioned on the 3rd fret.
•	This time we shall learn more about the fretted notes between the 1st positions on the 3rd string. Notice here that A would be positioned on the 2nd fret.
•	Let us now turn our attention towards the fretted notes positioned between the 1st positions on the 2nd string. Here you can find that C would be positioned on the 1st fret and that D would be positioned on the 3rd fret.
•	Let us talk about the fretted notes positioned between the 1st positions on the 1st string. You can find here that F would be positioned here on the 1st fret and that G would be positioned on 3rd fret.
•	Now you shall have to read all the notes in sequence while in open position. You have to start from the E string on the low and then work up your way playing all the open positions up till G which is on the 1st string.
•	Now you have to play with the open position chords. For doing this, you shall have to start with a C chord and then work your way through each open position of both major and minor chords.
•	Now we will learn to play the sharp notes. These also have to be played while in open position. Sharp notes are denoted by # sign and its use is to raise a note by one fret.
•	Next is the playing of flat notes in open position. All flat notes are denoted by “b” sign and its use is to lower a note by one fret.

Watch a video instruction on how to read guitar notes
<p

The only difference between this amp and the ones available in the market is the look. While your handmade one cannot quite match up to the sophisticated look of the readymade one, it will serve its purpose quite well and also for a much lesser price. When you play the guitar, everyone will be impressed by the sound quality and overlook the gaudy look of the assorted amp. You can learn how to build your own guitar amp in an easy step-by-step method.

It is wise to get hold of an instruction booklet first. This booklet will tell you all about the parts to be used in the amp and how to start constructing it. There may be help online too. Several sites will teach you how to build your own guitar amp.

To start out, you will need a box which can preferably be an old amp box. If it is just an ordinary box, then you will have to cut out holes for knobs and switches. Make sure that the knobs and switches you will put together are comfortable to use. They should also be in working order. It is also better to bring together all the other things you will need to build the amp. You will need certain tools, screwdriver, wrenches, pliers and similar equipment for the job.

You can now start building the amp. There are three main parts of an amp which are the pre-amp, the power amp and the speaker. These are the essential parts of every speaker, no matter how big or small. The size of the parts may differ in each amp. They may be separate units in bigger amps. Depending on the quality of the parts that you use for your amp, the sound quality will differ.

You have to follow the instructions and connect the parts to make the amp. It is of course much simpler to purchase the amp but making it on your own has an unparalleled thrill.

The pre-amp has all the knobs and the switches. It is placed first in line and so receives the first electric signals from the guitar. There may be many controls in this unit like bass, treble, reverb and many other distortion elements.

Check the manual from time to time to see that you are proceeding along the right way. After the pre-amp, it is now the turn of the power amp. If this is of good quality, then the sound amplified through the speaker will also be good. Bass and treble adjustments can be made here too.

The speaker size will depend on the size of the box and the power amp. Although bigger speakers produce greater sound, you can buy one which suits your requirements. Close the box after connecting the speaker.

Testing the amp will prove that you have installed it perfectly. The results will be noticeable when you play the guitar. Your hand made amp will give you amplified sound.

Take care when you handle the electrical circuits lest you suffer shocks. If you follow the instructions carefully, you will not face any problems. You will definitely get a good guitar amp which will add zing to your performance.

Watch a video instruction on how to build your own guitar amp
<p

Learning music is required when you need to read notes as otherwise; there are chances that you end up messing with the notes. Playing the guitar has always been a fascination with many. While some learn it from teachers, some just self practice it, however it is strongly advocated that one can undergo some training so that reading guitar tablature becomes easy for you. Every musician comes up with their own unique method of playing music and reading music notations so if you are a guitarist, you probably have your own style of sharing guitar tablature with fellow guitarists.

Before you get on to play guitar tabs, you must understand the basics of it to help you get the hang of it. The tablature (or in short tab) is associated with most of the string instruments. These days, however, the tab is associated more with music notations that are mostly used to read the notes in a guitar. Let’s first try to understand what these tabs mean so that we can use them while playing the guitar. These are the basic notes found with a guitar tab but there are even advanced types to be noted while you actually get on to playing guitar.

There are 6 horizontal lines in the tab staff for guitar. The bottom or the last line present in the staff is called the high ‘E’ string. The first one is called the low ‘e’. Similarly, the second line counted from the bottom is called the ‘A’ string.

Also there are numbers noticed on the guitar tab, placed in the middle of the strings represented by lines. These numbers represent frets placed on the guitar neck, while A0 would mean playing the open string. At the same time, A1 would mean first fret and A2 would mean the second fret. When these numbers are placed close to each other, that means, they are supposed to be played with the similar chord hold down. These numbers play an important role. They are either placed close by or with some space between them. If the distance among the numbers mean, you are expected to understand the length of the notes depending on the distance between each number.

If the numbers spaced within equal distance, the notes would be of equal length. The numbers are usually placed evenly in quavers or eight notes.

The Hammer on is usually denoted with an ‘h’. This letter is located between the first original fret and the second hammered fret.

The Pull off is represented by the letter ‘p’ and is placed similarly like a hammer on in the tablature.

A slide in the tablature is shown by a ‘/’ or ‘\’ (slash) symbol, which means an ascending slide or a descending slide respectively.

A ghost note is played by fretting a note and these are barely loud enough to hit the ear. The 7th note is a ghost note that isn’t audible but makes the impact more for the feel.

The string bends help the guitarist note, which fret needs to be bent to and are mostly seen in varied manner in a guitar tablature.

The guitar tabs are often combined with standard notations to get the best out of two worlds of music and helps the guitarist gel with the standard rhythm.

Watch a video instruction on how to play guitar tab
<p

Once you get your self familiar with the musical instrument and its different features things become easier.

Playing guitar and creating beautiful music out of it can be a wonderful experience for many. If you love music and want to learn to play Acoustic guitar, then following instructions can help you to start the learning session in the right way.

Instructions

1.	Firstly, study the physical instrument properly. Get your self familiarized with different parts of the guitar and their respective functions. See how they work together to produce sounds. Just some quality time devoted for this basic understanding of the instrument will definitely be repaid many times over throughout your learning session.

2.	Memorize the names of the strings as well as the numbers of the frets. A guitar is generally comprised of 6 strings- the thinnest string that is farthest away from you is the high E string, then there are B string, G string, D string, A string, and finally the thicker one, closest to you is the low E string. Carefully observe how tension affects these strings and how sound varies with the increasing length and size of the strings.3.	Learn some basic chords. You can start with the first E major chord. This is the first chord taught in guitar lessons. Next you can move on to the A minor chord, next to the G chord and then to the C chord. Once you learn these chords, you can start playing music. You can also look out for some useful instructions accompanied with pictures at chordguide.com.

4.	Try to experiment with different ways of playing the chord. For example, there are ten different fret hand positions from which you can play the C chord. So try these different positions and see how it affects the strings. Though you can start with the ‘perfect’ open C chord, try out all the other alternatives in order to develop greater flexibility in moving from one chord to other. This will help you later when you will compose new music.

5.	Build your calluses because it will help you form proper chords. At beginning your chords will sound weak because you may not be able to correctly press down on all the strings. But with more and more practice you will master the art. While learning the chord positions, carefully and intently study your fingers. When the chord position is right your muscle memory is also correct.

6.	Practice playing the instrument daily for half an hour. This entails learning to have a good ear for changes in sound/pitch/intonation, positioning your body parts including shoulder, arm positions, leg and back, shoulder and arm positions comfortably and also fret-hand coordination and technique, strum-hand coordination and technique and not to forget fret hand muscle memory.

7.	Play with CD versions of the songs you like. Just hold down the ‘fast rewind’ button and observe the number counter (the number of seconds of music). Make a mental note of the seconds-count exactly where the riff begins. This way you will be able to easily backtrack again and again to the starting point from where you began.

With the above given instructions you are sure to gain something for your acoustic guitar learning. Not only does this instrument have something magical but it also looks rather glamorous. Many people are attracted towards playing the guitar out of plain passion. Although you have both the acoustic and the electric guitar, the latter is by far the easier and more interesting to learn. But in order to be able to become a thorough professional guitarist, you need to learn how to play an electric guitar first, so that you can master the finer points later on.

The first step involves getting the feel of the instrument. Since there are many terms used in the guitar, it is best to get to know them so that you will be more familiar when you read or see a tutorial on how to play an electric guitar.

The scales are the most important of all things. You need to master the scales so that whatever you play it sounds perfect artistic. You can go on practicing the scales until you have attained perfection and are quite fast and can play them easily. There are certain frets which you can change to bring about a change in the sound too. The trick is to practice really hard.

It is wise to start out with simple songs so that you can learn slowly. Many simple books are on sale in bookstores and music stores which you can master quite easily. Continue with these simple songs until you have mastered them completely and do not commit any mistakes while playing them.

There are many guitar lessons online too. Many people have learnt the guitar by studying books and learning from the Internet. But a teacher is invaluable if you want to learn properly. You can learn a lot by watching him play.

You can take actual lessons from a trained instructor. He will help you learn the guitar in the proper way and help you to inculcate good habits while playing it. He will also help you avoid the bad habits and develop solid skills. It will help you a lot to master the guitar and become a true maestro.

Learning to tune the guitar is a very important thing. You need to learn how to change the strings too. This will help you to maintain the guitar so that it lasts you a lifetime.

There is no escape from practice. The more you practice, the finer artist you become. When you practice hard, you will learn to distinguish between the small differences in every note which will help you become a more accomplished artist.

More practice can make a star out of you. For all you know, the guitar may turn out to be the passion of your life and you may be earning dollars by making stage shows every now and then. You must remember that eventually hard work is always going to pay off.

Watch a video instruction on how to play an electric guitar
<p
