A number of bars and fast food restaurants also serve the dish as a delicious snack item. These deep-fried cheese curds are prepared a manner similar to the crispy onion rings. You can prepare a batter by using specific ingredients and cover the cheese curds completely with the batter to deep fry with hot vegetable oil.

Recipe I

2 cups of bread crumbs

2 teaspoons of cornstarch

1 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper

1 tablespoon of chopped fresh thyme

1 cup of all-purpose flour

4 eggs, well beaten

1 pound of Wisconsin cheese curds, cut into 1″ to 1-½” wide

vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions

Add the bread crumbs, cornstarch, ground cayenne pepper and chopped fresh thyme into a food processor. Combine all these ingredients and blend till the bread crumbs are finely grounded. Transfer the mixture onto a pie plate.

Place the beaten eggs and all-purpose flour respectively on a second and third pie plates. Scour the cheese curd first in the flour, then on the beaten eggs and finally on the bread crumb mixture.

Place the battered cheese curds on a baking sheer and place it inside the freezer for about 20 minutes.

Add the vegetable oil to a large pot or deep fryer in enough quantity to cover the cheese curds completely. Heat the vegetable oil at 365 to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Drop the battered cheese curds in batches into the hot oil and fry till the cheese curds turn crispy and warm from all sides.

Remove the deep fried cheese curds from the hot oil and place on paper towel to drain the excess oil. Season the deep fried cheese curds with salt and peeper and serve immediately.

Recipe II

Ingredients

vegetable oil

1 egg, beaten

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

1 cup of milk or beer

1 cup of all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon of granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of baking powder

1 (9-ounce) package of fresh cheese curds at room temperature

Instructions

Add the vegetable oil to a large pot or deep fryer in enough quantity to cover the cheese curds completely. Heat the vegetable oil at 375 degrees centigrade or 285 degrees Fahrenheit.

In the mean time combine the beaten egg, milk or beer and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil by adding into a medium sized bowl. Blend the ingredients well and add the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt and baking powder. Mix these ingredients till you get a smooth mixer. Drop the cheese curds into the batter and use a spoon to turn the cheese curds till it is coated thoroughly with the batter.

Drop the coated curd into the hot vegetable oil by transferring a little at a time. Fry the coated cheese curd for about 1 minute or till the same turns brown and puffy. Keep turning the cheese curd during frying to fry all coated sides. But you have to ensure that the pieces are not overcooked as the curls will melt and ooze through the coating.

Remove the deep fried cheese curds from the hot oil and place on paper towel to drain the excess oil. Leave the fried cheese curds for a few minutes to cool before entertaining your family or friends.

Watch a video instruction on the making of a deep fried cheese curd
<p

You need to keep the environment clean where the birds live and also make sure that the food that they eat is free from mold or fungus. Most often you use bird feeders to place the bird food. But if you are not particular enough to notice if the bird has its food or if some particles of food are still left over, there are chances that mold will develop on the feeders and the remaining food. Also make sure that the seeds you give the bird is fresh and not moldy. Molds can be very dangerous for the birds as they lead to many diseases. Therefore, you should give clean food on clean bird feeders.

Bird feeders need to be cleaned once in a month. You must inspect the feeders before and after heavy rains. You must be sure that the seeds are dry for the birds to eat. If the feeders are getting affected by the rainfall, then you need to change its position. If you make sure that there is no moisture in the feeder, there is very little chance that molds will develop.

If the bird feeder is kept at a place where it is exposed to sun, rain and wind, you should be very careful when you place the food. Give a small amount initially and see how much time the birds take to finish the food. You can increase the amount slowly to see the amount which is necessary for the hens. Stop when you find that the food is remaining behind in the feeders. Also, you can keep shifting the place of keeping the feeder so that the bird droppings don’t accumulate too much in one place.

The feeders should be cleaned with hot water and soap. After rinsing the feeder with plain water, you can immerse it in a dilute bleaching solution. Again rinse with plain water and allow the feeder to dry completely. Clean your hands before and after cleaning the feeders.

You should never pile on food in the feeder and let the birds finish it over a period of time. There will be moisture in the feeder and food which will lead to mold development. If there is rain or snow, the food will also be wasted. It is much better if you can give the food at regular intervals throughout the day and clean the feeder if there is remaining food after a particular interval of time.

You might use a tube or a hopper feeder if you want the food to remain safe from inclement weather conditions. But these tube feeders also need to be cleaned regularly or they will gather mold. Dump the feeder to get rid of the uneaten food in it and then refill it with fresh food.

The basic principle behind keeping mold away from the bird feeders is cleanliness. You must keep an eye on giving fresh food to the birds and on cleaning the feeder regularly so that no molds develop on it. This will keep the birds healthy and happy.

Watch a video instruction on feeder fresh for a clean bird feeder
<p

But in most of the supermarkets, you can find nut butters made only from peanuts. But you can make butter at you home by using almonds with the crunchy or smooth texture and additives of your choice. A number of people also prefer the almond butter as a source of huge amount of protein and dietary Vitamin E. The vegetarians love to include the nut butter as a pert of their regular diet. As some laboratory tests have highlighted, the amount of protein contained in 2 tablespoons of almond butter equals the amount of protein contained in 1 ounce of lean meat. It will take only a few minutes to make the almond butter at your home and entertain your family members and guests by serving a variety of crackers and bread toasts and sandwiches. Further, the recipe used for making the almond butter can further be extended to prepare butter from other varieties of crispy nuts like cashews and peanuts.

Ingredients

2 cups crispy almonds

3/4 cup of coconut oil

2 tablespoons raw honey or maple syrup

1 teaspoon of sea salt

Instructions

Soak and dehydrate the almonds to prepare these as an ingredient to make butter. When you soak and dry the almonds, the fatty acids and other anti-nutrients elements contained by the crispy nuts are removed. Further, the almonds become more digestible after being soaked and dried before being processed to prepare the butter.

Some people even prefer to prepare the butter with roasted almonds. If you decide to use baked almonds, you can spread the crispy nuts on a shallow baking pan by forming a single layer. Bake the almonds at 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees centigrade for about 8 minutes or till the nuts start turning light golden in color. However, based on your personal taste you can make the butter from raw as well as roasted almonds.

Place the prepared almonds and sea salt inside a food processor and grind to form a fine powder. Add the coconut oil and raw honey or maple syrup to the ground almonds. Process the ingredients till the butter becomes smooth.

When you prepare the almond butter, the same will not be completely hardened. You have to chill the liquid peanut butter to make it hard. Transfer the liquid peanut butter into an airtight container and store inside the refrigerator to harden. When it is time to serve, remove the peanut butter from refrigerator and serve at room temperature. You also have options to replace half of the coconut oil with untoasted sesame oil or pressed sunflower oil to keep the peanut butter less hard after the refrigeration process.

After making the homemade almond butter, you can serve the healthy and yummy dish with fruits. You can even make the delicious sandwich by using sliced breads, almond butter and banana.

<div

Beef nachos are very popular with everyone and you will love to have it as a snack with some cold beverages. Ground beef is usually used to make nachos and the preparation is not too difficult. Most people who love nachos also love to have the beef variation of the snack. The whole family can sit and enjoy the delicious snack.

Ingredients:

Ground beef

16 ounces Re-fried beans

½ cup Onions, chopped

½ cup Green bell pepper, chopped

8 ounces Tomato sauce

Grated cheese

Taco seasoning

Tortilla chips

Procedure:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Take a large saucepan and heat some water in it. Put the ground beef in it and cook for some time. Cover and simmer on the stove. After a few minutes, take the lid off and add the re-fried beans, chopped bell pepper, tomato sauce and taco seasoning into the saucepan. Put the lid back on the saucepan and cook for 15 minutes on slow heat. Check to see if the ingredients are soft and cooked.

2. Take a casserole and spread the tortilla chips on the base of the casserole. Pour the beef mixture on the chips in the casserole. Again, sprinkle the grated cheese on top. Put the arrangement inside the oven and allow the cheese to melt and the flavour to penetrate through. The recipe is now ready to be served.

1st Variation:

You can try another variation of the same recipe. Here, you will need some jalapenos along with the rest of the ingredients. The cooking procedure is almost the same. The only change is that you will have to cook the beans separately. These cooked beans are placed first on the tortilla chips in the casserole. You can pour the beef mixture on top of it and then top it with grated cheese, chopped onions and sliced jalapeno. Since you will have to cook the beans separately, it will take a few more minutes to cook the recipe.

2nd Variation:

The recipe given on top describes how to make simple beef nachos. But you can also add several other ingredients to it to make it much tastier. For this, you will need, chopped lettuce, black olives, sour cream, green onions, tomatoes, enchilada seasoning, guacamole and a jar of salsa. You can also add some corn.

The procedure for making this variation of beef nachos is a bit different. You have to first brown the beef in a pot and when you can see the fat coming out from the beef, be ready to drain it away. Now put in the salsa, beans, and seasoning to the beef in the pot. Cook the mixture by covering the pot for 15 minutes. See if the beef and the other vegetables have softened.

Now you can follow the same procedure as before. Put the tortilla chips in the casserole and pour the beef mixture on it. Put the grated cheese on top and then heat inside the oven at 400 degrees. The nachos will be ready to eat.

There are many other variations you can try out with beef nachos. If you want, you can grate more cheese on the top and also make many layers in the casserole. It tastes quite delicious provided it is served hot.

Watch a video instruction on nachos with beef!!! – recipe request
<p

Although samosas are usually had as an evening snack but some people can have them at all times of the day too. Most of the cities in India have local shops at every nook and corner selling samosas. You hardly have to walk a short distance to see a shop selling this delicious snack. It is the most preferred snack offered to guests as most of them love the snack and also because it is easily available near your home. But if you have a passion for making Indian snacks, then you can make the samosas at home too. You will find your kids loving it for sure.

Ingredients:

Samosa pads

Oil for frying

3 potatoes, boiled

2 green chillies, chopped

½ cup green peas, boiled

1 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped

½ tsp garlic-ginger paste

½ tsp chilli powder

½ tsp garam masala

1 ½ tsp lemon juice

Some cashews

Salt to taste

Procedure:

For frying the samosas, you need a frying pan and a slotted spoon. But before that, you need to prepare the samosas first. There are two parts in the samosas. The first is the cover of the samosas and the other is the filling inside. To prepare the filling, take the boiled potatoes, peel and mash them in a bowl. Add the ginger-garlic paste, green chillies, lemon juice, chilli powder, garam masala and salt to the potatoes. Mix them properly so that it will taste the same no matter from where you take a pinch and taste it. Once you get a smooth mixture, put in the cashews and the boiled and mashed peas. Put the freshly chopped coriander to the mixture and mix it well.

Now that you have the filling ready, you have to think about the cover of the filling. There is a special way in which the cover is made and twisted to give a triangular shape to the samosas. Take one of the samosa pads and moisten the short edge with a little water. Make a cone by rolling the pad in such a way that the sheet folds onto itself and looks like a triangle with one side open. The moistened end should seal one end of the triangle cone with the other edge left hanging on the top of the cone.

Take a tablespoon and take some of the filling mixture in it. Put this filling inside the cone and then seal the open end by pasting them together. Brush with some water and seal well so that the samosa does not open easily. If you don’t do this well, the filling mixture will escape while frying. You just have to tighten and seal with some pressure on the flaps of the cone.

Now take some oil in a frying pan and after the oil gets heated up sufficiently, you can put the samosas in carefully. Depending on the oil you take in the pan, you can fry less or more number of samosas at a time. Keep turning the samosas in the oil from time to time so that it gets evenly browned up. It should be a faint golden brown in color. The samosa pads should also turn crispy. Take care that the samosas don’t get over-fried.

The samosas are now ready to be served. If you have made some mint or coriander chutney, it will taste very delicious. You can also have it with tomato and chilli sauce or some pickles.

Watch a video instruction on how to make vegetable samosas
<p

The marinade is the most important part of making this recipe and you should be careful that you prepare it well. It mainly consists of a few sauces and other ingredients which will enhance the taste of the beef when kept immersed in this marinade. Once you prepare the marinade, there is nothing left to do but wait till the beef gets cooked in the oven. The marinade is easy to make but it will take some time before the beef gets cooked in the oven. You should have the patience to wait for the delicious looking beef pieces on the sticks.

Ingredients:

1 ½ pounds boneless beef top sirloin steak, cubed

2 tbsp cider vinegar

3 tbsp honey

2 tbsp hoisin sauce

1/3 cup soy sauce

2 tbsp oil

1 ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

2 garlic cloves, minced

Procedure:

Take a large bowl and put all the ingredients like brown sugar, cider vinegar, hoisin sauce, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, honey, garlic and oil together in it. Mix well to make a good marinade.

Take the sirloin steak and cut into 1-inch cubes. You can buy more beef if you want but if this is your first effort at making this recipe, then it is better to try it out with 1 pound beef first and then increase the amount if you fall in love with the preparation.

Take a re-sealable plastic bag and put the marinade in it. Put the cubed beef pieces in too and mix well. Seal the bag again and keep in the fridge for about 8 hours. You can also make the marinade at night and keep it overnight in the fridge. You can marinate the beef for about 30 hours too if you want for better taste.

Take the sealed bag from the fridge and drain the marinade away. Take the beef cubes and thread them into the skewers. Make sure that you have cleaned the skewers before using them. It is better to use metal skewers. Now grill the skewers after covering them. Don’t turn up the heat too much but let it be on a medium setting. Wait for about 10 minutes until the meat is nicely cooked. You can keep turning the skewers so that the cubes get cooked evenly. You can get about 6 skewers full of beef cubes.

Serve it hot and the flavor of the different sauces and other ingredients will make your taste buds tingle. Everyone in your family is sure to love this preparation. You can experiment with other kinds of meat instead of beef too. If the meat is softer and takes less time to cook, you will get the kabobs done in a small time. Try this same marinade with chicken and it will give you a different taste. The chicken sticks will cook faster too. But the joy of having beef sticks is in a class of its own.

Watch a video instruction on beef sticks
<p

If the vet feels that the bird needs medicine, then you will have to learn how to administer the right dose of medicine to the bird at the right time. The vet also might give the medicine to the bird himself but he may also ask you to do it everyday till it gets well. Most of the medications which are given at home are given orally or with a little water. You might consider giving the medicine with water so that the bird can have it easily when it has its water in the day. But you can never be sure about the right dosage. The taste of the water will also be altered and the bird may not like it.

You have to learn the art of orally medicating the bird. You may feel intimidated at the thought of giving oral medication to aggressive birds, but if you learn the right tactics, you will be able to do it easily and also save the life of your bird. But there are many things you should know before you start the medication. You must learn from the vet the exact dose to be given and the timing. If there is more than one medicine, what should be the time gap between them? You also have to find out the duration of the full course of treatment and the amount of time which should pass before you notice any positive changes in the bird’s condition. You should know the side effects, if any; if the medicine should be stored in the fridge and whether it is a solution or a suspension.

Before you start giving oral medication to your bird, you should see a demonstration of this by your vet. You should then do it yourself in the presence of the vet so that he can correct you if there are any flaws in your approach. You can replace the medicine with water when learning how to administer.

Since every bird is different, there is no particular way in which you should do the job. When you hold the bird and give the medication for the first time, it may be a little awkward, but you will soon learn the tricks. If the bird tries to escape, you should speak very gently to it and maybe play some music in the background.

Shake the medicine first and then draw it into a syringe. Make sure you draw the right amount and from the middle of the bottle. The needle should not be in the syringe by any chance. Try to avoid having air bubbles in the liquid when drawing in the syringe. The medicine should be at the tip of the syringe. Choose a small syringe and keep a few more handy in case the plunger does not work after a few days.

Hold the bird in your hand and place the syringe near its beak, to the left. The tip of the syringe should be at the right of the bird’s throat. Place the tip a bit inside the mouth and give a gentle pressure to the plunger. The bird might take the medicine without any problem and in that case, you can continue to give the full dose by increasing the pressure. But in case the bird does not take the given amount, wait till it swallows it and then give some more.

Now that you have finished administering the medicine, you can wipe the feathers of the bird with warm water if you have spilt some into its feathers. You can also offer the bird a treat for having taken the medicine. Be with the bird for some time so that it does not feel neglected. You can then rinse the syringe in hot water and clean it properly until the next use.

Watch a video instruction on how to give a bird medicine
<p

Soup is served hot in generally. But you can freeze soup for further use and minimize your cost of expenditure. Freezing soup is simple and you can make ahead meal for busy nights. Most of the soups with an exception of sea food soups can be store in form of freezer for later use. Some chunky soups, vegetable ones in particular may loose some of the consistency of the chunky vegetables. Each soup is individual so try them out as given:

Prepare soups according to recipe

A soup is a healthy diet. Though, everyone seeks to consume it daily, still they are not getting proper time for managing their cook. Prepare soups from your desire recipe and use it for freezing. So, freezing soup is a best process to make your soup one time and reuse it many times. Store frozen some minutes the soup according to your desire recipe. Soften overnight in fridge or cook from frozen as per the recipe you want.

Let your soup cool

When the soup is cooked, leave it to reach near room hotness before freezing. As it depends on the amount of soup and the fat content, it should reach room temperature in between one to three hours. If you have large volumes of soup to freeze then empty it into separate bowls to cool quicker and in an easier manner. Let it cool for sometime. Then the soup is at near room temperature decide what portion sizes the soup will be used for. Select containers which match the portion sizes you will use and pour the soup into them. Place the lid on the top and label them. A piece of paper to the container is fine. If you want to freeze your soup, let it cool completely. You can reheat it again but it needs to be cool before putting it in freezer. The best way to preserve soups in freezer is to cool it first.

Label well

Label well if want to freeze your soup successfully. Any soup can be freeze well; however, some soups needs modification to be successful in freezer. The ingredients can easily be adaptable. Soups can be cooked in microwave if frozen and serve hot. It gives you the similar taste as it was before. Hence, without wasting the remaining amount this is the great way to reutilize it.

Put soups in freezer container

If your extra soup is going to be waste keep it in freezer container. If possible it is better to grab an extra package than to thorn away for further use. Freezing soup in a plastic bag is top done level. The bags do not freeze in odd shapes and they take up less room and easy to load. Never, try to use home made vacuum sealer when freezing soup. Liquids plus vacuum sealer equals large mess in your kitchen. Soup will expand ever so somewhat when frozen so leave a small amount of room at the top of the container to avoid any spillage. There are special freezer tapes especially designed for marking storage containers but they are costly. We have never had a problem with using normal tape for sealing and paper. Mark them with a normal pencil or pen.

Watch a video instruction on how to portion and freeze soup
<p

They have to be handled very carefully so that you don’t injure them accidentally. When you think about their nutrition, hand-feeding is the only thing which can be done so that the babies can take in food little by little. You must know the right procedure of hand-feeding so that the baby does not choke on the food or get asphyxiated. Pet birds usually trust humans implicitly and depend on them for their food. Although Nature teaches them to search for their own food, they love being fed by the humans. The grown up birds don’t need as much care as the babies.

The fundamental principle of hand-feeding is the amount, nature and frequency of food that you should give the baby bird. The bird might be a baby when you start feeding it but it can grow very quickly and you will have to be very careful that you increase the amount of food gradually. You should also study the nutritional needs of every type of bird. The development of the bird should be noted so that you can decide the type of food suitable along with the quantity.

When you think of hand-feeding the baby bird, you must first observe how it is done and then gradually develop the knack and the habit of feeding the bird. It is also necessary to know something about the digestive system of the bird so that you know where to place the food and how the bird takes it inside. There is a food compartment which you can see when the bird opens its beak. This compartment gets ready when you give the bird its food.

Before you hand-feed the bird, you should find out the capacity of the food compartment or the crop. The baby bird will not have much feathers and so when you guide your thumb and index finger against the crop, you can know its capacity. This will tell you the amount of food you should provide.

4.	Since you are dealing with a baby bird, you should know that its crop should never be empty. It is alright to maintain an interval of 4 hours between each feed. If you find the crop still has food after 4 hours, then there is some problem with its digestion.

Hand-feeding requires you to position your hand in the right way. It is much easier to feed wild birds as they take in food through the dropper and you don’t have to carry them in your hands. But the pet baby birds need to be held with a towel and you have to hold them properly and position your hand well to feed them.

If you want to prepare some formula food, you can use some egg yolk. The best way to feed the bird is to take it in your hand, resting it against its back and wings. Tilt the beak open and you will find the bird gaping at you. You have to keep feeding it till it stops gaping.

You can use a small paintbrush to gather some food. Place the brush at the back of the throat so that the food drops in its mouth. If the bird is very small and new-born then you should feed it every half an hour. When the baby is a bit more grown up, you should wait for about 45 minutes to feed it again. Gradually, it can be increased to 4 hours.

Hand-feeding a bird requires skill and the baby should feel comfortable and happy in your hand when you feed it.

Watch a video instruction on hand feeding baby bird
<p
