However, the change of layout in Windows7 still baffles quite a few users that are not familiar with the settings of conventional Operating System. Often times, users want to change their DNS settings for various reasons including fixing their Internet connection. Step5: The window has two options available to you such as Networking and Sharing. However, the first option is shown as default. On the middle of the window, there is a small rectangular box with the following message at the top: This connection uses the following items. There are a number of options available to you. However, you need to double click on the one which says “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TPC/IPv4).

Step6: Upon double clicking, it will open up another small window that allows you to change the properties of the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TPC/IPv4). The properties have some default options. Depending on your priorities you need to change the option. The default option usually says “Obtain an IP address automatically. However, if you want to apply any IP address manually, you will need to change select the second option that says “Use the following IP address”. If you choose the second option, you need to give a new IP address manually. Similarly, there are two other options to change the DNS server address. You can change the DNS server address based on your needs. After making necessary changes in the IP Address and DNS Address, click on the OK button and you’re done.

Recycle File

If you’re using Windows and any important file has been deleted, there are chances that the files deleted have been stored in the Recycle Bin. If you’re using Mac OS, it’s stored in the Trash. If you use Linux KDE, the folder in which the deleted files will be stored is the Wastebin. Whatever this folder called until a file exists; it is possible to recover deleted files easily.

To restore data, double-click on the Recycle Bin or the Trash to observe if the file is still there. If you locate the file, drag it to the desktop. To store the file in its original location in Windows, you can click on the file and select Restore option from the drop-down menu.

Look For a Backup

If you don’t find the file in the Recycle Bin or the Trash, look for a backup. If your PC is on a network that has habitual backups, sound out the system administrator to see if you can retrieve a saved copy of the file.

Use Commercial File-Recovery Software

It is effective to use commercial file-recovery software that scans the disk for identifiable data. When you delete a file, the operating system gives the space obtained by the deleted files to other files. But it can’t reuse the space right away. So the deleted file will stay on your hard drive for some time. Hence, you may be able to restore some data.

If you choose to use file-recovery software, avoid installing it on the same disk that you have to retrieve the file from, or you might overwrite the data you’re trying to restore. Start on the software from a CD-ROM or a floppy disk. And if you download it straight from the Internet, don’t download it onto the disk to which the deleted file belonged to.

Saving the Recovered Data

One important thing to consider is not to write to the disk that contains the files you want to recover. Save the recovered files to a different drive to the one they were recovered from. You can choose an external drive or a network share, even a USB memory stick.

If the hard disk crashed
